Try this drill to encourage a more penetrating ball flight.
HEEL STARTS THE PROBLEMLifting your left heel during the backswing prevents you making a powerful return over a stable base. This leads to a breakdown in your spine and shoulder angles in the downswing and through impact. |
SPINE ANGLE NOW SUFFERSAs a result of this initial fault, your spine will be thrown out of the correct angle in the downswing. Too much spine lean and overly tilted shoulders make you hit down too steeply into the ball and encourage a slice-inducing ‘out-to-in’ swing path |
TRY THIS DRILL: LEFT TOE UPIt’s impossible to lift your heel off the ground as you turn into the backswing if your toe is pointing up. This encourages you to generate more power at the top and sets up a good downswing and impact position. |
BALANCED IMPACTKeeping your left toe off the ground into impact promotes a more upright spine angle that mirrors your spine at address, while flatter shoulders encourage a more sweeping action and an ‘in-to-out’ path. |
