What we say...
2012 LONG TERM REVIEW
I’m aware of the more expensive lithium batteries on the market, but I have to say that the lead acid one – albeit heavy – has powered the S1 Digital superbly well. It has plenty of punch after 18 holes, and for me reliability is a big thing. The unit is very straightforward to assemble and also to fold away, but that doesn’t mean it’s small – in fact, it’s quite difficult to fit in the boot of the car, because of the size.
If they could have made it with a smaller footprint, it would have been perfect. The easy-to-use speed dial is fantastic – speeds from 1-9, push the button and away you go – it really is a doddle to use. If you’ve got a car that can happily accommodate this beast, along with the (brilliant) accompanying bag, I would certainly endorse it especially given the excellent reliability factor.

2011 REVIEW
Tester: Mat Newnham, HCP 18
Pros: There was very little to dislike about this product, and having never owned an electric trolley before I can safely say I’m a convert. The product was simple to use and I never felt that I had to keep a hold of it to ensure it goes in a straight line – I could walk next to it safe in the knowledge it would stay close.
Cons: It might be because I’ve got big hands, but I found the handle a little on the short side when I did need to grab it. The other thing I found a little irritating was the size of the unit – it seemed a bit big and it was tricky to move and store in a boot of a car.
Conclusion: Like the S3 Digital, it may be a touch big but the performance was exceptional. Motocaddy have been offering topquality lower-priced trolleys for a good few years now, and this is the perfect example of how they continue to tick lots of boxes for lots of golfers, even for those on a tight-ish budget. There is now a new all-singing, all-dancing S1 Pro which is a higher spec and available from £349.99.

2010 REVIEW
What we like: Let’s start with ease of use – you simply don’t get a more straightforward product. Good, responsive speed dial, nice ergonomic handle and a tight bag grip. For less than £300 this is sensational and won’t be beaten for performance and value.
What we don’t like: Dave thought it wasn’t the easiest to assemble, whereas Jon found it very straightforward and actually thought this was one of its standout features. There’s no getting away from the fact that it’s limited in terms of functions – it’s been around a while now, so other brands and products have caught up a little.

2010 REVIEW – BRONZE AWARD
The original S1 model from Motocaddy was first launched back in 2006 and the Digital update has built on the success of that and the new S3 trolley – and what an update it is.
For not very much money, not only do you get a trolley that is incredibly efficient and quiet, you also get something that is simple to use and powerful too. Our quartet was incredibly impressed with the overall package.
Firstly, the curvy looks of the frame were easy on the eye and it looked contemporary without being over the top. In terms of assembly, it was very easy to set up. The S-Series folding system means the trolley clicks together when it’s folded down too which makes it remarkably easy to lug about. Ian loved everything about the S1 Digital, and promptly gave it full marks in each section.
Interestingly, our man from Philipstoun was happy to give it 5/5 in terms of value too, citing the undoubted class of the product behind his decision. Gadget-mad Dave admitted he would have liked a few more functions but for the money he agreed that it was a pretty impressive piece of kit.
The Motocaddy S1 Digital Electric Trolley features a digital control with on/off and nine speed settings.
Battery options: 18-hole battery £299, 36-hole battery £329.99, 36-hole lithium battery £499.99.
Weight: 8.4kg.
Warranty: 2 years.

Trolley ok so far after 18 months or so. First battery lasted 8 months (approx 90 - 100 rounds) and was replaced. Second battery failing again after same time. Charging was with the charger supplied. Now use a 4 year old lead acid battery from a previous trolley with no problem.

I have owned my S1 for 3 years and am on my second battery and second motor. I have found it not fit for purpose, as it has never managed to complete more than 15 holes without the red light coming on. I usually end up pushing it the last few holes. When I start the round it is normally set at speed 7/8 to try and keep up with my partners power caddy on 4/5 speed. The torque produced by the S1 is also very low compared to other trolleys. One other small complaint is the positioning of the control button leaves it prone to accidental starting. I use the trolley 4/5 days each week during the summer but in winter I don't use at all due to its lack of power in the wet conditions. As the battery is now no good I am thinking of replacing the trolley rather than buying a replacement battery.

Won an S1 lithium which having used a Powakaddy lithium a few years ago was going to sell immediately. The powakaddy was very poor, battery popped out often, speed control was appalling and generally was less effort to carry! Decided to try the Motocaddy before selling on and really glad I did. Folds small enough to fit in my boot with my clubs (albeit with the wheels off), and the performance is great. Speed control works well, bag doesn't twist and the battery genuinely does somewhere is excess of 36 holes. No gimmicks just a great simple trolley.

Simple, efficient and reliable, what else could you need?

I owned the original Motocaddy S1, a choice influenced by Todays Golfer review. Initially I was delighted with the trolley but the battery started to lose power after 14 or 15 holes. This was after only 9 months use. Battery replaced under warrany and again became faulty after only 9 months. I bought a 3rd battery and new charger but again battery only lasted 9 months. Got a replacement battery under warranty and sold the trolley. I suspect there must have been a fault in the trolley as the 4 batteries were from 3 different suppliers and supposed to be good for 27 holes. I now have a Powakaddy!
