Jump to:

If there is one staple in every golfer’s wardrobe it’s a polo shirt. Whether you play in a cold climate and it’s constantly covered up by one of the best mid-layers or best jackets, or if you’re fortunate to play in warm weather and all you need to cover your torso is a polo shirt, treat yourself to one of the best golf polo shirts 2024 has to offer.

Is there a better feeling than strutting up the middle of the fairway towards your ball, sunglasses down, shorts on, one playing partner hacking through the trees on the left, the other fishing their ball out the water on the right? Perhaps if you were wearing a polo shirt that was a bit more comfortable in this heat, but other than that, life is good.

Thankfully, with the increasingly extensive range of golf polo shirts entering the market over the last decade, there should be no excuse not to feel as fresh and ripped as your drive deserves. Advances in performance fabrics and a cultural shift toward golf apparel becoming more, dare I say… “with-it”, has meant a myriad of options to choose from, combining style, comfort, and functionality.

If you shop in the same way as I do for golf clothing, then you’ll also find it really difficult to purchase just one item. When buying your new golf polo shirt, you have to find a new pair of golf trousers or golf shorts to pair it with. You could even go that extra mile and complete the outfit with a fresh pair of golf shoes!

Once you have your ideal look in mind, then think about the functionality you require to keep you swinging freely. Are you looking for a breathable, moisture-wicking option, something warm and comfortable, durable, or perhaps the sustainability of the materials used is of most importance to you?

Whatever you decide, our guide to the best polo shirts in 2024 will have you (and your torso) covered! Sadly, I can only wear one polo shirt at a time. Therefore, I entrusted colleagues to test and review piece of apparel in order to help me pick out the best golf polo shirts.

Best Golf Polo Shirts: Men’s

Premium polo shirt that's extremely easy to care for

I can honestly say I don't think I own a better polo shirt than the Peter Millar Staccto Performance Polo Shirt. It's neigh on impossible to pick a fault with this luxurious polo shirt.

I've taken this polo shirt away with me on multiple occasions and my favorite feature is that it doesn't need ironing. I genuinely believe you could crumple it into a ball and throw it into the bottom of your bag while you travelling, pull it out at the other end, and not find a single crease.

This probably isn't the most exciting element of a polo shirt, but it has to be noted that the Staccato washes very well, in the sense that it holds its shape and the colour doesn't fade - this can be said for all Peter Millar apparel.

I really like the design of this polo shirt because it's subtle enough to almost appear as a block colour, but up close you can see the pattern very clearly, and what a pattern it is!

Pros

  • Fully crease resistant
  • Subtle yet stylish design
  • Ideal in a wide range of weather conditions

Cons

  • Won't be in stock forever
Materials 92% Polyester; 8% Spandex
Colours Blue; White
Sizes S - XXL
  • Tailored Fit
  • Four-way stretch, wicking, and easy-care properties
  • Antimicrobial properties

An easy-to-wear polo shirt on the course and off the course

Most versatile polo shirt
TravisMathew's The Zinna Polo Shirt is one I find myself wearing very often. This polo shirt is stylish on-course and off-course, comfortable, and very functional.

The fabric is slightly thicker than a typical golf polo shirt which is what makes The Zinna a brilliant option for golfers who like to wear the same polo shirt on-course or off-course without feeling like they're wearing a golf polo shirt casually or a casual polo shirt for golf.

I own a fair few pieces of apparel by TravisMathew and every product washes very well. Given how often I wear The Zinna polo shirt, I've washed it on many occasions and its shape hasn't been affected and the colour hasn't faded.

I have this polo shirt in two colours, I prefer the Heather Light Blue colourway (pictured) because it's easier to see the slight marl in the pattern which I feel adds an element of luxury to the product.

Pros

  • Practical for on-course and off-course wear
  • Thick quality material
  • Available in a wide range of colours

Cons

  • Not the longest in the body
Materials 63% Cotton; 37% Polyester
Colours Seven
Sizes S - 3XL
  • Tailored fit
  • Signature collar shape with durable construction details
  • Cotton polyester fabric blend
  • 4-way stretch and wrinkle-resistant

An easy-care polo shirt by one of golf's biggest clothing manufacturers

This is one of my favorite polo shirts that I own. I’m not into outlandish or garish patterns but I like something that’s not completely plain, so the thistle design here is the ideal balance for me.

But most important is the fit, which I find perfect. I like a snug fit around the arms, chest, and shoulders, without feeling restricted, and the FJ Thistle Print delivers exactly that. FootJoy’s ProDry fabric has a good amount of stretch to it, which means you can have a snug fit without feeling at all constrained during your swing. I’m 6’3” and sometimes find a medium polo is the right size but a tiny bit too short, but this is the perfect length.

It apparently features moisture-wicking technology that draws moisture away from the body – I can’t say I’ve noticed that, but I’ve certainly never found it feeling sticky, even in warm weather.

It comes out of the wash free from creases – which is a bonus given I haven’t used an iron for about 20 years – and still looks as good as new after numerous wears and washes.

Pros

  • Comfortable athletic fit
  • Long enough in the body for someone who's 6'3"
  • Vibrant colour options and pattern

Cons

  • Won't suit all body types
Materials 88% Polyester; 12% Spandex
Colours Four
Sizes S - 3XL
  • FJ ProDry Stretch Lisle fabric
  • Moisture-wicking technology
  • Easy care fabric

An extremely breathable and lightweight polo shirt

Best polo shirt to wear in warm weather
I've always been aware of Abacus as a golf clothing brand, but I've never had the pleasure of owning any of their apparel.

When I first received this package I was unsure as to whether I liked the writing on the sleeve of the Marco Drycool Polo Shirt, but you can't see it while you're wearing it and I like that it matches the colours within the polo shirt.

I can definitely "count on it" to keep me cool in warm weather. I wore this polo shirt on a trip to Ireland (yes it was warm in Ireland) and not once did I feel any irritation from the Abacus Marco Drycool because it's very breathable and lightweight.

If you pressed me for one gripe with this polo shirt, I would have to say that washing it scares me because I don't know whether to put it in with the dark or white washing. Every time I have washed this polo shirt I have washed it by itself. A positive note is that it washes extremely well and none of the colours have faded.

Pros

  • Very lightweight and breathable
  • Premium design
  • Luxurious feel

Cons

  • Multiple colours in the shirt makes it difficult to wash
Material 100% Polyester
Colours Blue; Teal
Sizes S - 3XL
  • Breathable
  • Drycool
  • Stretchable
  • Wicking

A brilliant polo shirt that helps to keep you smelling fresh

I should start with the flaws of this polo shirt as there are so few. The only real critique I had was after some washes the collar lost some of its shape which is a little disappointing for the price you pay. Other than that, you'll have struggled to see me on the golf course in anything else.

The colours G/FORE use can be both garish and subtle depending on what you choose and I really love that. The green colourway you can see above wasn't hard to match up with any outfit combination and I felt it added some much-needed colour to a rather dull collection.

It fits very well, I'm 6'0 tall with a 45" inch chest, and an XL fits comfortably. The polo shirt is great in the heat thanks to its moisture-wicking and odour-controlling properties. Not only does it look great but it feels great too. Thanks to the 92% Polyester it is super soft and stretchy which makes for a great polo shirt.

Pros

  • Stylish and colourful pattern that pairs with a wide range of colours
  • Quality materials
  • Easy to care for and clean

Cons

  • The collar started to lose its shape after a few washes
Materials 92% Polyester; 8% Spandex
Colours Blue; Pink; Green
Sizes S - XXL
  • Four-way stretch
  • Machine washable
  • Inhibits odour
  • Moisture-wicking

One of the more popular golf polo shirts worn on Tour

A high-quality polo shirt you can rely on season after season. The Nike Golf Polo Shirt will always be seen on the world stage on the shoulders of the likes of Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler. Not only simple in their design but also great at being exactly what you want your golf polo shirt to be.

Similar to the rest of the polos you'll see in this list, the Dri-FIT Golf is smooth feeling, stretchy, and great at moving the sweat away from your body so you stay dry and comfortable on the course.

I love how the polo shirt sits on your body. If you've worn Nike stuff before you'll know exactly what I mean, and it is no different to many of the polos I've had from them over the years.

I'm a huge fan of the mesh collar, it's something you never knew you needed until you have it, it's great at regulating heat on them hot summer days.

The only downside to the polo shirt is that it's a little long which is fine if you tuck your top in but for those who have it out it can be a bit annoying. This obviously isn't an issue if you have a long torso.

Pros

  • High-quality stretchy material
  • Worn by some of the best players in the world
  • Incredibly comfortable and breathable

Cons

  • Isn't the most suitable polo shirt to wear untucked
Materials 88% polyester; 12% elastane
Colours Black; White
Sizes XS - 4XL
  • Moisture-wicking
  • Stretch-knit fabric
  • UVA and UVB protection
  • Breathable

A Cool tropical inspired polo shirt perfect for warm weather

Best summer vibes polo shirt
Not many of you will know too much about this brand but thanks to the quality of their products I think many of you will very quickly. With some of the finest performance fabric, these polo shirts look and feel amazing, which I can vouch for.

Another great polo shirt to add some style and colour to your wardrobe. As with most modern golf polo shirts, the fabric is super soft and is made with a 4-way stretch material which I found very forgiving and easy to swing in.

I love the unique and subtle designs of each Skins polo shirt, with the Tropicana giving that Carribean vibe every time you step on the course. If you're not after a plain polo shirt then these won't be for you however it's worth keeping an eye out as when they do release you want to get your hands on one for sure.

Pros

  • Cool and quirky pattern
  • Breathable and high-quality materials
  • Stretchy and forgiving fabric

Cons

  • The colours in this polo shirt won't suit everyone
Materials 88% Polyester; 12% Spandex
Colour Pink
Sizes XS - XXL
  • Moisture-wicking
  • Non-wrinkle-free material
  • UPF 50+ protection

A vibrant and stylish garment

Best patterned polo shirt
As someone who dresses relatively conservatively for golf, this is right on the limit for me in terms of what I’d wear. But, paired with a plain pair of trousers or shorts, I think it works.

I really like the performance fit, which is snug enough without ever feeling tight, and the collar has some rigidity to it which means it always sits up nicely. It’s a small detail, but a few polos I’ve tried recently have had floppy collars which I think just looks messy.

Puma says it’s made from moisture-wicking, 4-way stretch “Cloudspun” material... All I can say is it feels very soft, seems very breathable, and it’s never been at all restrictive during my swing.

It offers 40 UPF protection and is made with at least 70% recycled materials, which I think is a real bonus.

Pros

  • Distinct, vibrant, and colourful pattern
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Structured and stiff collar

Cons

  • Not the highest quality option
Materials 94% Polyester; 6% Elastane
Colours Black; White
Sizes S - XXL
  • Performance fit
  • Custom-milled performance poly/spandex blend
  • Performance technology
  • Moisture-wicking

Heavy material but a very cool polo shirt

This is one of the best-fitting golf polo shirts I own. It’s comfortable, super smart, and even though it’s an athletic fit, it doesn’t come untucked or ruck up during the swing thanks to the extended inner front hem.

I’ve seen Castore clothing on and off the course, but this is the first piece I’ve owned and I love the look and shape of the logo on the front of the chest. I very rarely feel at home wearing a golf shirt off the course, but this is one that I would consider wearing out to the pub with friends.

The company name is also printed on the upper back of the polo, which is another part of the design I'm fond of.

It doesn’t feel as light as some of the other polo shirts I favor when it's really warm out, but I was wrong to assume it wouldn’t match them when it comes to keeping me cool.

This washes and dries brilliantly and it looks and fits just the same as when it first landed on my doorstep.

Pros

  • Easy to wear on and off the course
  • Washes very well
  • Holds its shape and position on the course

Cons

  • Slightly heavier than your typical polo shirt
Materials 100% Polyamide
Colours Seven
Sizes XS - XXL
  • Aertek technology
  • Anti-bacterial Otek finish
  • Lightweight fabric
  • Engineered fit

A simple polo shirt available in a wide range of colours

Best casual polo shirt
If you want a shirt that mixes classic styling with a fresh look and feel then this is it. I love the vibrant colour of this polo shirt and as soon as I put it on I knew it would perform as well as it looks.

The material is incredibly light and is designed to offer maximum comfort and freedom of movement.
It delivers brilliantly in both these areas and I’ve found that it’s hard to beat in hot conditions as it offers exceptional breathability.

I like the white contrast tipping at the collar and cuffs, but I have to admit that I wasn’t initially a fan of the oversized ‘Pete the Penguin’ logo on the chest. It’s been quick to grow on me though. So much so that I now want one in black and white (Caviar).

Pros

  • Casual traditional design makes it easy to wear on and off the course
  • Highly durable fabric
  • Great choice of colours

Cons

  • Logo might be too big for some people's likings
Materials 88% Recycled Polyester; 12% Elastane
Colours Ten
Sizes S - XXL
  • Moisture-wicking
  • Made From Recycled Materials
  • Single Knit Fabric

An environmentally friendly and stylish polo shirt

Best zipped polo shirt
Here’s Reflo’s modern and multifunctional take on a polo shirt and it’s a joy to wear. There's no way you can’t turn a few heads with its bold two-tone colour block, cyclingesque collar, and zip fastening.

The Tobol polo shirt is made from recycled pique fabric, which is really comfortable and allows you to move freely with every stretch and movement out on the golf course.

This polo shirt really helps you stay cool when the temperatures are high and it’s probably one of the best shirts I’ve owned for its moisture-wicking properties. Plus, it dries really quickly out of the wash and it definitely doesn’t require an iron - I’ve found it virtually impossible to crease, which is a bonus.

I love the way the zip sits snugly away from sight once you’ve fastened it to the top. A very neat touch that really completes the overall look.

A perfect partner for trousers or shorts and my preferred colours are either black or grey.

If you do prefer a more traditional polo shirt then you could always opt for the Reflo Tagus Polo Shirt which has a button-up collar (also pictured in the gallery).

Pros

  • Stylish and modern design
  • Contrasting colours are easy to pair with
  • Keeps you cool in warm weather extremely well

Cons

  • Zip fastening is harder to replace than a button if it breaks
Material 100% Recycled Polyester
Colours Orange/White; Black/Green; Blue/Navy
Sizes S - 3XL
  • Recycled pique fabric
  • Moisture-wicking
  • Breathable
  • UV protection

Best Golf Polo Shirts: Buying Guide

How to choose the best golf polo shirt?

The polo shirt is at the forefront of any golfer’s outfit, an opportunity for you to make a statement, or to complete a classy and sophisticated look with something more subtle and refined. There is a range of variables worth considering when choosing a polo shirt to complete your look on the course. We have put together a list of a few important aspects to consider when purchasing your next golf polo.

Budget

Golf polos can be picked up for as little as £20 at one end of the spectrum and surpass £100 at the other. This is heavily linked to the technology used in the creation of the garment as well as the brand name. It’s important to first set a budget before searching for different options, this narrows down your search and will help you find a polo shirt that is financially appropriate for you.

Fit and Sizing

It’s vitally important before making a purchase to ensure the golf polo fits you correctly, as it’s crucial that the shirt allows movement when swinging. Sizes vary from brand to brand, so the best way to guarantee that a polo fits you well is to try it on before buying.

If you’re ordering a new polo shirt online, deliveries are becoming quicker and returns are becoming much easier. Therefore, I’d recommend ordering a couple of sizes in each piece you like, then you can keep the size that fits you best and return the size that doesn’t fit as well nice and easily.

Comfort

How a golf polo shirt feels is arguably the most important aspect of the purchasing decision. With a wear time of over 4 hours often required – plus the time in the bar afterward – guaranteeing that you will be comfortable for the duration of your round should be one of the key factors to consider.

Comfort mainly boils down to size and materials. Being rather sleight myself, I prefer a polo shirt to fit tighter than looser because it’s more comfortable for me. However, your preference might be completely different. Your ideal golf polo shirt could be one like the oversized garments worn by Jason Day.

Versatility

Value for money and cost per wear are both factors that should be considered when purchasing a new polo. Opting for a more sleek and casual look as opposed to a sporty one may be an option for you if versatility is an important factor, allowing you to get good wear both in professional and social settings.

Care

Do you want your polo shirt to be low maintenance or are you prepared for it to require a higher level of care? For example, most 100% polyester shirts will require no ironing meaning that they are great to take in a bag or suitcase. Considering when and where you will be wearing the polo shirt will help determine the level of care that you are willing to give.

Breathability

This is particularly important when playing in warm weather. Choosing a polo shirt that has breathable fabric will ensure more comfort throughout the round. Furthermore, moisture-wicking technology will help keep you dry, contributing to the comfort of the shirt.
