Golf Glove: Buying Guide
How to choose the best golf glove
Many golfers can initially overlook the golf glove as an important piece of equipment and they would be wrong to do so. The hands are the only part of the body that remain in contact with the club throughout the golf swing and are what keep you in control at all times, so a golf glove that can give you more grip in all conditions sounds rather important. What are the key things to consider when buying a new golf glove? See below for some factors to consider
Which hand?
When starting on golf it can be rather confusing to understand what glove goes on which hand so we’re here to help. The lead hand in a conventional grip is the one that has the glove on it. So for a right-handed golfer, they would wear a glove on their left hand and for a left-handed golfer, they would wear the glove on their right hand.
Size
Studies have shown that 98% of golfers wear a glove that is too big for them. A golf glove should feel very tight when you first put it on. You shouldn’t be able to pinch any material on the palm or fingers. If you can cover all of the Velcro with the fastening tab, that’s another sign it’s too big. Don’t be alarmed if your brand-new glove feels a bit restrictive at first, it will loosen up within a few minutes or a few shots on the range.
Leather vs Synthetic
Leather golf gloves give the softest feel, which is why they’re preferred by most professionals and discerning amateurs. The downside of leather golf gloves is they don’t tend to last as long as synthetic ones and they’re generally more expensive. Synthetic golf gloves are sometimes better in wet conditions, too.
Durability
If it’s durability you want then a synthetic glove is the most durable and will last longer than a leather glove, you will sacrifice elements of fit and feel with synthetic but you will have a glove that will last.
Finding a golf glove that has a great fit and feel is one thing, but finding a glove that’s also durable long-term can be hard. Nothing in golf is essentially cheap and finding a glove that is durable, comfortable, and fit greats for you can mean buying a variation of gloves until you find the right one.
Feel
Even though most gloves look the same out of the pack, they’re not. Like clothes, each glove will fit a hand shape slightly better than the other, and getting a comfortable glove is vital. If you’ve never played a round of golf in an uncomfortable golf glove, I wouldn’t! When you’re next trying on a glove in the shop pick up a club and make sure it feels secure on your hand, you’ll thank me later

It may sound obvious but if you have holes appearing on the palm and fingers, as well as any tears to the seams.
