Callaway golf balls are widely used among professionals and amateurs, but which ones are the best?
Jump to: Best Callaway golf balls | Buying Guide | FAQs
Callaway have made great strides in the golf ball marketplace in the last 20 years, so much so that they are the proud manufacturer of some of the best golf balls. One of the major turning points for Callaway in recent years was the signing of Jon Rahm in 2021 which proved to be important for both parties with the Spaniard winning eight times – including two major championships (2021 US Open & 2023 Masters) – while using Chrome Soft X golf balls.
Rahm isn’t the only Callaway staffer to have success with one of Callaway’s best premium golf balls – Xander Schauffele won Olympic Gold in 2020 playing with Chrome Soft X LS golf balls (since he has switched back to the Chrome Soft X). Many other players have had much joy using Callaway’s best golf balls.

Callaway doesn’t only manufacture golf balls for leading professionals, they are responsible for some of the best golf balls for beginners and high handicappers. Whether you’re male or female, Callaway offers outstanding options for everyone with some of the best ladies’ golf balls.
One of the ever-expanding popular categories of balls is the best amateur-level golf balls, which come in at a lower price point than the Tour standard models but tend to feature similar, if not the same, technology. Callaway have thrown their hat into the mix in this category and it has certainly not gone unnoticed – they are brilliant value golf balls.
With golf balls available to every golfer, Callaway golf balls are well worth considering when you’re next purchasing some ammo for the golf course. Stocking up on balls before the golf ball rollback starts impacting the production of Callaway golf balls might not be a bad thing – especially if you appreciate distance!

This ball won't win any awards for being the longest off the tee, but that doesn't mean it's not a strong performer off the tee. Compared to other premium golf balls the dispersion is very consistent and there is a lack of side spin, which helps you find more fairways.
For golfers who want extra assistance with alignment and visibility, there are certain models of the Chrome Soft X's to help. I find the 360° Triple Tracks to be very helpful with putting - more related to confidence than holing putts. Unfortunately, no golf balls will find the bottom of the cup if your line or stroke is poor.

Callaway's golf balls that rival the brand's premium offerings
Best value Callaway golf balls
If you're still reading and haven't already gone and bought a shed load of these golf balls you clearly want to know what makes them such good value for money. The best way to describe these golf balls is a Chrome Soft in disguise. It's nigh on impossible to distinguish the difference between the ERC Soft (an amateur-level golf ball) and the Chrome Soft (a premium golf ball). Surely, you must have bought some by now.
At a considerably cheaper price, it's hard to understand why anyone would play with the Chrome Soft. From the ERC Soft, you get a ball that pound-for-pound challenges the best premium golf balls both around the greens and off the tee. As a soft golf ball, it pleases the majority of golfers with feel, control, and spin. Seriously, if you're in the market for a new golf ball, you want a quality option but don't want to pay top dollar, you need to try the ERC Soft!
The Callaway ERC Soft was the first Callaway ball to feature the Triple Track design which has since been enhanced to the 360° Triple Track on the Chrome Soft range. A new fade alignment aid has just been released too, which is very helpful when putting.

Callaway's premium feeling golf balls aimed specifically at female golfers
Best female-specific Callaway golf balls
With them performing just as well as the ERC Soft does, they are a great alternative for golfers who might opt for the Chrome Soft or any other premium golf balls for that matter. The ERC Soft REVA delivers good distance in the long game and impressive spin and control around the greens. It's very hard to find a fault with either ERC Soft golf ball. It's also hard to understand why there is a female-specific model when they work exactly the same as the supposed men's model.

A brilliant option for golfers with quick swing speeds who struggle with too much spin
Best low spinning Callaway golf balls
Despite being a low-spinning golf ball, the Chrome Soft X LS spins very highly in the short game. This ball is slightly firmer than most other Callaway golf balls, which may not be desired by everyone, but it isn't a negative, the feel from the Chrome Soft X LS is very solid and responsive. As with the other premium offerings by Callaway, there are models with alignment aids and visibility assistance.

Perfect for if you want a premium golf ball but don't swing like a Tour player
Best premium Callaway golf balls for amateur golfers
The Chrome Soft is a very good ball around the greens, it feels exceptionally soft and is extremely responsive. It's not hard to generate distance with this ball, although it won't be taking the biscuit for the longest golf ball of 2023. Compared to the ERC Soft there is little difference, but compared to other premium golf balls, this is in a league of its own - so if you want a premium golf ball with a urethane cover, but you don't swing too quickly this is the ball for you.
The Chrome Soft is now available in multiple models that are designed to help with alignment and visibility. Try them all and see which one you like best!

Best Callaway golf balls for slower swing speeds
These golf balls are loved by beginners and high handicap golfers because they are so easy to elevate and they are fairly inexpensive for the performance they deliver. From tee to green the Supersoft's perform admirably, but on and around the greens is where these balls really shine because they are so soft and easy to control.
If feel is something you prioritize in golf balls and you don't have a quick swing speed, it's definitely worth considering Callaway's balls specifically engineered for golfers with slower swing speeds.

Best Callaway golf balls for beginners
To find more consistency in golf it's always worth finding a golf ball you like and sticking with it. With the Warbird being suitable for a wide range of swing speeds it's very easy to enjoy this golf ball for a long period of time regardless of how you're swinging. It might not be the softest golf ball in Callaway's range, but some golfers do appreciate a firmer feel which is very responsive.

Best Callaway golf balls: Buying Guide
How to choose the best Callaway golf balls
Callaway are one of the biggest and best-known names in golf. They have a whole host of Tour players playing with every piece of golf equipment they manufacture – including their golf balls. Callaway’s golf balls have advanced massively over the past few years, so much so, that they are now the second most popular golf balls being Titleist on the professional circuit.
Tour players have the pleasure of being gifted the best balls for their game – something amateur golfers don’t have. So what can amateur golfers do to help them choose the right Callaway golf balls for their game?
Ability
In order to get the right golf balls for your game, be as honest as possible about your ability. This tends to be the key factor that’ll lead you to a certain level of golf balls. If you’re a beginner or high handicapper you don’t want to be playing (losing) premium golf balls. Similarly, better golfers don’t want to game anything below their standard because they won’t meet their ability.
Compression
The other key factor that should be at the forefront of your mind when considering which golf balls to purchase is how much compression each golf ball has. Compression mainly correlates to swing speed, meaning the quicker your swing speed, the higher compression golf balls you will require – and vice versa. Some golf balls buck this trend by having a core that’s easy to compress, but as a general rule compression directly relates to swing speed.
Performance
With Callaway’s golf balls being so popular among their Tour players, as well as amateur golfers, there is no need to question the performance of Callaway’s golf balls. The only thing to question is how well they perform for you. A ball that sounds good on paper might not be exactly what you need, so keep trying different options until your golf improves (and the golf ball rollback comes around). Callaway has plenty of brilliant options to choose from.
Budget
If you only like to spend a certain amount on golf balls, or you are happy to spend any amount of money on golf balls, Callaway has you covered. Delivering cheap golf balls and premium golf balls (and everything in between) there really is no excuse not to consider Callaway golf balls next time you’re perusing the shelves (or website).
Best Callaway golf balls: FAQs
How do I know which Callaway golf balls are best for me?
Before purchasing any golf balls, you need to assess your game and be as honest as possible! Callaway have many different options available that will suit different golfers – there isn’t a universal standard for every golfer. It doesn’t matter what golf ball you play with as long as your scores improve and you enjoy playing golf. Callaway offers golf balls for quick swing speeds, slow swing speeds, men, ladies, etc. Therefore, it’s inevitable you’ll find a Callaway golf ball to suit your game.
How many different Callaway golf balls are there?
Callaway offers an extensive range of golf balls that suit golfers of varying abilities. Currently, Callaway provides customers with the choice of 10 golf balls – each one is intended to suit a slightly different golfer. There aren’t many brands that have as wide a range of golf balls as Callaway does. Whether you know which golf balls you need or if you’re still searching for the perfect ball, Callaway has you covered.
What’s the difference between Chrome Soft and Supersoft?
There are quite a number of differences between Callaway’s Chrome Soft and Supersoft. One of the few aspects these golf balls have in common is (as the names suggest) they are both soft feeling golf balls. Apart from that they have very little in common. The Chrome Soft is part of Callaway’s premium range of golf balls, sporting a urethane cover and featuring innovative technology this golf ball is intended for better amateur golfers and Tour pros.
Whereas, while the Supersoft is still an incredible golf ball, it’s more suited to club golfers being one of the best golf balls for beginners and high handicappers. The hybrid cover of the Supersoft isn’t as premium as urethane which does help to keep the Supersoft’s price lower. The Supersoft has a much lower compression (38 compared to the Chrome Soft’s 75) making this ball more suitable for golfers with slower swing speeds.
Neither golf ball can be described as being better or worse than the other because that is completely subjective. One golfer might love the Supersoft but hate the Chrome Soft, purely because of their swing, action, or experience with each ball. If for some reason you’re deciding between the Chrome Soft or Supersoft it might be worth meeting somewhere in the middle and opting for the ERC Soft (just to throw another spanner in the works).
What Callaway golf ball does Jon Rahm use?
When Jon Rahm signed with Callaway in 2021, there was some uncertainty as to whether he would switch golf balls. He did! With one particular Callaway golf ball, he has enjoyed major success (if you pardon the pun) winning the 2021 US Open and the 2023 Masters with the Chrome Soft X. I very much doubt he has any plans of swapping anytime soon.
