The LTDx are incredibly strong lofted so you will need a decent amount of speed to launch them to a good peak height with decent levels of spin. If you do the model thanks to its long blade length is very forgiving.

What type of iron do you need?
Irons come in five main categories and it’s important you buy within the category that best suits your game and ability if you’re ever to maximize your playing potential.
The best blade and muscleback irons have the smallest bodies. They’re forged so golfers can expect great feel and feedback, they’re also incredibly unforgiving so usually, you’ll need to be a great ball striker to get the best out of them. Blades tend to sit most comfortably in the hands of golfers who like shaping shots onto their target, which means you probably won’t have much more than a 4 or 5 handicap to play them well.
Often the best players’ irons will also be forged, but unlike blades they have a small and shallow cavity back, to nudge up forgiveness when shots are hit away from center. From my experience, you shouldn’t be playing off much more than an 8 handicap to use players’ irons effectively.
Players’ Distance irons have only really been about for the last decade and thanks to their stronger lofts they promise golfers more speed and distance than a typical players’ iron. The best players’ distance irons often have hollow body constructions, and thin fast faces to maximize distance from whatever speed you can muster. You shouldn’t be playing off more than about 12 to 14 handicap to get the best from them.
The best Mid-Handicap irons are designed to offer up greater confidence as their heads are larger, more offset (which makes it easier to flight shots), and more forgiving. Lots of cavity-back game improver irons are cast from molten metal rather than squeezed into shape by a forge. Most game-improver irons will suit golfers playing to an 8 handicap or above.
For beginners and golfers who want to enjoy themselves on the golf course the most forgiving irons, have wider soles, bigger heads, and sometimes even hybrid-style heads to offer up the most amount of playability found in a set of irons.
Black Friday Golf Iron Deals: Buying Guide
Black Friday sales can be a little tricky to navigate with a plethora of retailers vying for your business as the holiday season approaches. To help keep you focussed we have suggested a few considerations to bear in mind so you come out the other end with a driver that will do you proud.
Budget
Just because items are plastered with sale banners and claims of huge discounts, it’s worth doing your due diligence and making sure the advertised savings appear genuine. It’s also important to set yourself a budget, just as you would when shopping at any other time of the year. Even with healthy savings, golf irons are a serious investment, so make sure you consider the cost, not just the savings.
Timing
This is perhaps one of the trickiest aspects of the Black Friday sales to get right, as when the sale items are gone – they’re gone! Discounts across the sales period are constantly fluctuating depending on which items are flying off the shelf and which ones aren’t. In the same way, as you might approach buying a flight, we suggest monitoring prices for a short period to give you an indication of whether they are likely to continue to drop or if they will remain constant until the stock is gone.
The very best deals can often be found closer to the day itself, however, you do run the risk of your number one pick being sold out with this approach.
Custom Fitting
It’s often overlooked when we’re looking for bargains, but dialing in your optimal iron set-up through a custom fitting session will likely be of more benefit than any slight performance edge you hope to achieve by selecting one iron over another. I cannot stress enough we’d always recommend golfers get a proper custom fit before blindly buying online, if you don’t it’s highly likely your iron setup won’t be optimized for you.
If you have your eye on a particular set, I’d say in preparation for Black Friday see if you can give them a try and get a feel for what specs would suit you. That way at least you’re avoiding buying a set of irons you’ve never hit or been fitted before.
Black Friday Golf Iron Deals: FAQs
When does the Black Friday sale end?
This year Black Friday lands on Friday 29 November, but thankfully for consumers, the deals don’t end then! Amazing offers are expected to end on Monday 2 December (Cyber Monday). So, be sure to shop these outstanding deals soon, before it’s too late…
How long does Black Friday last?
Officially, Black Friday is one day when retailers slash the price of their products allowing customers to make major savings they otherwise wouldn’t at any other time of the year. However, Black Friday is now much more of a weekend event, culminating on the following Monday – often referred to as Cyber Monday. This year the best deals will run between Friday 29 November and Monday 2 December.
How much does Black Friday discount?
Black Friday discounts vary significantly between retailers with some research suggesting the average savings across the sale period to be in the region of 50%. You can expect the most popular items to receive more modest discounts of 20-30%, and less popular items to receive heavier reductions of 70% plus. Items will likely be discounted further as the official day draws closer.
Is Black Friday a good time to buy golf irons?
Black Friday sales undoubtedly present one of the best opportunities in the year for golfers to secure bargains on golf clubs from the biggest brands in the game. With new models of clubs being released in the new year, Black Friday sales are used by retailers to turnover surplus stock which is great news for golfers wanting to upgrade their bags with a new club, or 14!
Do golf retailers offer Black Friday deals?
Along with major online retailers such as Amazon, the majority of the biggest golf retailers will capitalize on the increased traffic around Black Friday and offer attractive discounts to customers ahead of the holiday season. PGA Tour Superstore, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Scottsdale Golf, and American Golf all offer Black Friday deals and are some of the most reputable places to purchase golf clubs.
