What we say...

The Wilson Triad is one of my favorite golf balls, but I think it’s criminally underrated. Here’s why you should put it in play in 2025.

The Wilson Triad is one of the most well-rounded golf balls I think any golfer can play with. Whether you need help finding the fairway, hitting more greens in regulation, or holing more putts, the Triad is up there with the best golf balls.

I enjoyed playing with the previous model Triad, so when I learned a new model was going to launch in 2025 I was highly intrigued. My intrigue quickly turned into delight when I started playing with the 2025 Triad because not a lot has changed – which I consider to be a massive bonus for a golf ball I view as being the best for mid-handicap golfers wanting to play better and more consistent golf.

The Wilson Triad 2025 is the world's most balanced golf ball

The Triad isn’t the sexiest of golf balls – no one is turning their head when you announce you’re playing one – but I quite like that. It’s a very practical golf ball, built to help you shoot lower scores. If you think of golf balls as players on a football/soccer field the QB/striker is the golf ball that everyone holds in high regard and secretly wishes they were and the RB/winger is the golf ball that’s very impressive in one area (distance) but struggles anywhere else. The Wilson Triad is the linebacker/central midfielder because it can do everything asked of it like a linebacker can blitz, drop into coverage, block, etc., and like a central midfielder can attack, defend, pass, shoot, etc. As I’ve already mentioned, the Triad isn’t the most desirable golf ball, but like a good linebacker/central midfielder, it won’t let you down.

Wilson are known for manufacturing quality sporting equipment, not in only golf, but also in football, basketball, tennis, and more. One thing I always hear people mention when discussing Wilson products is their value for money. That rings true in golf too. The Triad is one of the best value golf balls on the market, given the fact that it’s literally been designed to help bring your handicap down.

I don’t expect every golfer in the world to suddenly start playing Wilson Triad golf balls, but I think a lot of golfers would benefit from making the switch.

The first generation Wilson Triad was a very strong performer in our 2023 golf ball robot test, it’ll be interesting to see how well the new model performs when we test it in our 2025 robot test. For now, I’ll provide you with my own thoughts on this golf ball, and why I think it’s a worthy contender for your game.

Versatility

I don’t think golf balls get more versatile than the Wilson Triad – it epitomizes versatility. I honestly think a scratch golfer who loves premium golf balls could switch to this golf ball and find as much (if not more) enjoyment. Likewise, a new golfer currently playing with golf balls for beginners and high-handicappers could upgrade to the Triad and find the model to make them play better golf. Triad works for anyone and everyone.

Tee to Green Performance

The Triad is only such a versatile golf ball because it’s high-performing from tee to green. Personally, I think this golf ball performs better than any on the putting surface. Thanks to the tri-balanced construction, the Triad has a perfect center of gravity, making it the world’s most balanced golf ball, which helps to deliver a pure and positive roll.

I was very impressed by how easy it was to spin and control the Triad around the greens and even with short irons. The thin, high-friction urethane cover really connects with the club face, especially those that are more lofted.

Off the tee, the Triad is a long golf ball but also very straight. This golf ball features a high moment of inertia which generates fast ball speeds while reducing driver spin for enhanced accuracy off the tee. I must say, I did notice my accuracy improve when I played Triad compared to other golf balls.

Based on the fact that the Triad has been designed to help golfers find more fairways, hit more greens, and hole more putts, it’s hard not to scrutinize its performance on the course. However, it’s just as hard to argue with those claims. I enjoy playing Triad because it lives up to those claims, I’m sure you would too!

Feel and Response

The Triad is a soft golf ball, which typically, I’m not a massive fan of because I prefer firm-feeling golf balls. This isn’t the best-feeling golf ball I’ve ever played, given that the Staff Model and Staff Model X are Wilson’s Tour-level golf balls, it’s probably no surprise that I prefer the feel of both of those models over the Triad. Feel is respectable, and being soft, I imagine most golfers will like it, but for me, it’s just not quite what I like.

The soft feel doesn’t reduce the responsiveness of the Triad, I find this golf ball to be highly responsive in fact. I think with it having a thin cover you can really feel the golf ball making contact with the face. I found the feedback got stronger as you move down your bag. So, the response with a wedge is stronger than the response when you hit driver.

It’s hard to mark the Triad down for feel and response because I know the majority of golfers will enjoy how this golf ball feels off the face and the response they get back from it, but, in my opinion, it’s not as nice as other golf balls.

Durability

I find Wilson golf balls to be very durable which only adds to their amazing value for money. That’s no different with Triad. I played a good few rounds with Triad golf balls between August 2024 and January 2025, most of them around my home course, Cleveland Golf Club, but also at Trump Turnberry on both The Ailsa and The King Robert the Bruce courses. I can’t say I ever noticed the Triad cut up considerably so I had to stop playing with it and move on to a new ball.

In the same breath, I wouldn’t say it was drastically more durable than any other golf ball I’ve played with, but it does hold up well.

Final Verdict

This is the most versatile golf ball on the market and I urge any and every golfer to give it a go. It’s impossible to be disappointed by the Wilson Triad. It’s not a golf ball you’ll find a Tour player using, but it wouldn’t surprise me if someone on Tour started playing it. I liked the previous model, and I like the 2025 model just as much – if not more.

There aren’t many quality golf balls flying under the radar, but I still think the Wilson Triad is, hence why I think it’s the most underrated golf ball on the market.
