New four-piece construction with a smaller, lower compression core and new dimple pattern for a stronger flight, aimed at low-handicap golfers.

The updated version has a four-piece construction and is claimed to be one of the softest urethane balls out there. It is made with four distinct layers designed to work together to boost performance.

“Research conducted by our R&D team proves that more and more serious golfers want to play with a softer tour ball,” Michael Vrska, Wilson Golf’s Director of R&D, told TG.

“That’s why we’ve lowered the compression from the previous ball.” Wilson says a new dimple design delivers a more stable, penetrating trajectory, too.

“The number of dimples and the pattern is the same as the previous FG Tour,” says Frank Simonutti, Wilson Golf’s Manager of R&D.

“However, this new FG Tour has slightly deeper dimples, which produce a lower trajectory that is better suited to the ball launch properties of better players.”

As reviewed in our Balls Test:  The previous version had a super tacky cover and soft feel that meant better players lost out on distance. The new model still has that feeling out of the packet, but it soon disappears after a few practice chip shots and you’re left with a soft-feeling ball that goes plenty far enough off the tee.

You can feel the grooves gripping the cover on chips, leading to high levels of spin.

Doesn’t appear to be as “white” as other models on the market, but apart from that, this is a super all-round package.
