When it comes to refreshing the No.1 ball in golf, Titleist don’t take it lightly. Two years of development and months of tour seeding have taken place before revealing the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x (full review here) to the world.

The new model promises to take the famed ball to the next level, promising more greenside spin, a softer feel and a penetrating, consistent flight.

Consistency from ball-to-ball is a also huge-selling point for Titleist to ensure golfers, whether they are the world’s best or amateurs, can consistently execute the same types of shot from round-to-round.

The continued investment in advanced technology and quality control at Titleist Ball Plants 3 and 4, where every Pro V1 and Pro V1x are manufactured to the industry’s highest performance and quality specifications, ensures that every new generation of the balls are the best performing and most consistent models ever.

The new Pro V1 has seen changes to every layer – the reformulated 2.0 ZG Process Core delivers increased distance in the solid core Pro V1, while speed and long-game spin is added thanks to the faster ionemer high-flex casing that was seen on the Pro V1x Left Dash option.

But it’s the new, softer cast urethan elastomer cover cover that has seen the most notable changes, with Titleist tweaking the dimple pattern for the first time in a decade to provide a higher and more consistent ball flight.

Since the original Pro V1 debuted 20 years ago, Titleist R&D have designed, manufactured and tested more than 1,900 aerodynamic patterns. That includes more than 60 different iterations of the 2021 Pro V1’s new 388 dimple layout – increased from 352.

As well as the dimple pattern, the ball’s Cast Urethane Elastomer cover has been made even softer, helping you create more greenside spin.

And there’s a new alignment aid design on the side of the ball, with an enhanced alignment version, featuring lines on each side, also available (number 1-4 only).

New, Softer Cast Urethane Elastomer Cover

The softest cover formulation ever used on a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, increases greenside spin for more control in the short game.

New Dimple Pattern

Spherically-tiled Tetrahedral Dimple Designs featuring a 388-dimple layout for Pro V1, and 348 for Pro V1x, are optimised to maximise distance and flight consistency. Pro V1 maintains its penetrating trajectory while Pro V1x will fly higher than the prior generation.

What Titleist and their players say about the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls

Jeremy Stone, Vice President of Titleist golf ball marketing

“When a golfer chooses Pro V1 or Pro V1x, they are choosing absolute performance.

“Our R&D and Operations teams have spent years engineering new technology into each and every component of 2021 Pro V1 and Pro V1x.

“When it comes to the performance and quality of these products, we will continue to go to every length possible to help golfers play their best and shoot their lowest scores.”

Mike Madson, Titleist R&D’s Director of Aerodynamics and Research Engineering

“When we find a pattern we like, the next step is making sure we find the best possible version of that pattern by building and testing different variations of dimple depths, diameters, shapes and surface coverages.

“It takes years of work and we’ve been working on these new packages for almost a decade, but it is that commitment to research that ensures each golf ball is optimised to fly at its longest and most efficient trajectory.”

Cameron Smith, PGA Tour star and the first man to shoot four rounds in the 60s at the Masters

“When I first tested it, it was a bit hotter off the driver, which was great.

“The ball flight and windows were great, but the biggest thing that stuck out was the control coming out of the rough and around the greens.

“I can control my shots – especially those difficult, soft shots – so much better.”
