What we say...

The 2025 Titleist Pro V1 golf ball is said to deliver more than its predecessors, here’s my verdict…

The Pro V1 is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2025, which also means it’s celebrating 25 years as one of the best golf balls in the game, if not, the best golf ball. Titleist Pro V1 is the No.1 ball in golf based on success, usage, and popularity. So, how is it possible to improve a premium golf ball that’s already so highly regarded and highly esteemed?

Well, it seems that Titleist have found a way. I’m genuinely shocked by how much the 2025 Titleist Pro V1 impressed me. I thought the 2023 Pro V1 was a very solid ball, but having played with the new generation over the holidays at my home course, Cleveland Golf Club, I honestly think it’s a better-performing model from tee to green.

Pro V1’s are rarely spoken about when discussing the best value golf balls, but given how well I’ve found the 2025 model to perform and the success they’re having on Tour, it’s hard not to consider this as a good value golf ball. That might sound strange considering they cost more than $50/£50 but if you try them you won’t be disappointed.

I’m excited to see how the 2025 Pro V1, and Pro V1x, perform in our 2025 golf ball robot test. We tested the previous generation golf balls in our 2023 and 2024 robot tests. In both years, neither golf ball blew us away based on its results so I’m very interested to see if that changes in 2025.

The new 2025 Pro V1 has been designed to deliver more performance in every area from tee to green. To put that to the test, I played a good few rounds with the Pro V1, spent some time at the short game area, and held some putts on the putting green before collating my thoughts that I present to you now…

Versatility

The 2025 Titleist Pro V1 has scored full marks for versatility because any golfer will enjoy playing with this golf ball, and they’d be able to play great golf. I tried to find a reason not to score the Pro V1 5 out of 5 for versatility, but I just couldn’t.

The Pro V1 is a Tour-level golf ball that works for golfers with slow swing speeds, beginners and high-handicap golfers, and mid-handicappers – showing its versatility. Having worked in golf retail, I’ve seen first hand how popular the Pro V1 is among golfers of abilities, but I think the 2025 Pro V1 is perhaps the most versatile model I’ve seen.

I understand the Pro V1 isn’t considered a cheap golf ball, but given how impressive this model is for a wide range of golfers, I think it’s brilliant value. You might think that’s a slight reach, given that they retail for more than $50/£50, but based on how versatile they are, most golfers would struggle to argue they aren’t good value for money.

I recommend every golfer to play with the 2025 Pro V1 because I’m certain it will improve your game in at least one area from tee to green. If I’m wrong… I won’t be.

Tee to Green Performance

From tee to green, Titleist are promising the 2025 Pro V1 delivers more speed off the tee, more control with the irons, and more spin with the wedges. I can’t challenge any of the claims made by Titleist based on what I’ve seen on the course.

Before heading out on the course I took the Pro V1 to the putting green and short game area. I really like how the new model rolls on the putting surface and how it feels off the putter face. If anyone (everyone) has previously played Pro V1, you’ll know it’s a very solid golf ball to putt with, but I couldn’t help but feel something different with the latest generation. My opinion is that it’s more responsive and rolls purer.

Heading over to the short game area, I was very interested to see how the 2025 Pro V1 would perform with a wedge, given that Titleist say this golf ball generates more spin with the wedges. I was massively impressed by how much spin the Pro V1 was able to create when hitting chip shots, pitch shots, bunker shots, and full swing shots with a wedge. I was purposefully flying the ball to the flag to see how quickly it stopped, and it obviously didn’t stop straight away every shot (mainly strike-related) but it definitely stopped quickly – quicker than the previous generation.

Titleist Pro V1 2025 Golf Ball

Walking to the first tee, I was excited to see how well the 2025 Pro V1 would perform from tee to green, given how well I saw it perform on the green and around it before playing a full round. The first hole at Cleveland Golf Club is a par 3, instantly I was able to see how much control I’d be able to get from the Pro V1 with an iron. I wouldn’t say the 2025 Pro V1 will stop you from hitting a slice or hook, but I found distance control was much more consistent throughout all the rounds I played Pro V1.

Off the tee, it’s hard to say if the 2025 Pro V1 delivers more speed without having access to a launch monitor, but the distance was very competitive, and it felt fast off the face. It’ll be interesting to see if the 2025 Pro V1 is quicker than the 2023 Pro V1 when we test it in our 2025 golf ball robot test.

Feel and Response

Every time I’ve played with the new Pro V1 I’ve really enjoyed how it feels off every club face in the bag because it’s extremely responsive. I enjoy firmer feeling golf balls compared to soft golf balls because I find them more responsive. However, considering the Pro V1 is a soft golf ball, it’s very responsive.

Feel is massive for millions of golfers, I don’t know whether I’ve played with a better-feeling golf ball over the past couple of years. I’ve probably said that about other golf balls in the past, and I might say it again in the future, but right now, the 2025 Pro V1 stands out in my mind as the best feeling golf ball.

I think that’s partly down to the fact that I don’t normally like the feel of a soft golf ball as much as a firm golf ball. Typically, I find that feel translates to response, and soft golf balls tend to be less responsive than firm golf balls. But, the 2025 Pro V1 is highly responsive, much more responsive than previous generations. I love how responsive it is throughout the bag, off the tee especially, because it feels like there’s more velocity, almost as if the ball is moving towards you and you’re volleying it.

Durability

I’ve seen marked improvement in the durability of the 2025 Pro V1 over the 2023 Pro V1, which is another reason why I think the value of a Pro V1 has improved with this new model. I’ve rated the Pro V1 4 out of 5 for durability because it does scuff and scrape – mostly in bunkers – but that’s to be expected with a urethane golf ball.

The most holes I played with one golf ball was 9 holes because I wanted to see if there was consistency throughout the balls I received. After 9 holes, none of the Pro V1s were damaged enough that I was forced to swap golf balls, it was a personal choice. I could easily have continued playing a full round with every ball.

Final Verdict

The 2025 Pro V1 has massively shocked me because I didn’t think it was going to be as impressive as it is. Obviously, being the No.1 ball in golf, I had high expectations of this golf ball, but my expectations were exceeded. From tee to green, the new Pro V1 delivers in every area to meet the needs of every golfer.

I’ve never been as much of a fan of the Pro V1 as I have the Pro V1x, but I think that might have changed in 2025. The only reason I would play with the Pro V1x over the Pro V1 is purely to help me hit the ball higher, if I didn’t need a higher-flying ball flight, I would play Pro V1 without a doubt.
