Technology
Callaway’s X2 Hot balls have optimised aerodynamics depending on your swing speed.
The three-piece construction boasts the new HEX dimple pattern, a “Trionomer” cover and faster mantle design to enhance feel and control.
The X2 Hot is engineered to optimise lift and drag for moderate swing speeds to increase straight distance.
The X2 Hot+ is designed for swing speeds of 90mph or more and features a different mantle layer material.
Tested
As reviewed in our Balls Test: The X2 Hot didn’t get as high ball speeds as with the X2 Hot+ version. Greenside spin levels were similar, moderate from good lies with a mid flight.
Performed well around the green, albeit with a slightly firm feel and sound.
Soft enough around the green to not get away from you. Distance with the driver was about average.
The X2 Hot+ had reasonable stopping power, mid to high trajectory and a clicky sound. Low spin levels on the 50-yard pitch.

My swing is supposed to suit the X2, and not the X2 Hot, but just like the balls these have replaced I get the best performance from the X2 Hot even though my swing is only 85mph. These feel slightly harder than the X2 but fly with a slightly lower trajectory and get more run on the hardening fairways so I get more distance. They still provide plenty of spin on wedges and bite into the greens and putt and roll very well indeed. They also are very durable though a really crisp wedge can scuff them a little, but a small price for the added bite!
