What we say...

We were hugely impressed with Garmin’s innovative S1 watch, but the updated version raises the bar. The S3 is undoubtedly one of the best Garmin GPS watches on the market. The first thing to note is the newly-developed touchscreen, which makes the product easier to use than before and the high-resolution black and white screen which makes the numbers very easy to see regardless of conditions.

On first inspection, this tiny product is punching well above its weight in terms of performance and what it offers – it looks easy to use, quick and neat, so what’s the catch? The price. At £279 the S3 watch is nearly as expensive as SkyCaddie’s SGXw and Garmin’s own Approach G6 GPS. And for that sort of money we suspect some golfers might want something a little more substantial in terms of size and a large colour screen.

The Garmin S3 watch gives golfers distances to the front, middle and back of the green and the new Green View innovation allows players to see the correct shape of the green.

Unlike some GPS devices that require an annual subscription to download courses, the S3 comes preloaded with 27,000.
Golfers can also record their stableford and strokeplay scores, with the option to print these out at the end of their round.
