The first thing to say about the Paceyourmatt is that, for a 10-foot mat, it rolls up into a small bag that can be placed easily behind your sofa, under the coffee table, or anywhere else that is handy when you’re not using it.

When you first roll it out, you, may be confused by the number of coloured blocks and the dashed and solid lines, but a quick flick through the guide that comes with it and you’re away.

While there are many features, depending on your ability level, we think this mat is most useful for aiding distance control and maintaining an accelerating putting stroke.

It does the former thanks to a 17-inch zone past the ‘hole’. When the ball rolls over the ‘hole’, the zone shows you the perfect distance needed to avoid lip-outs.

You can also hone in your distance control by putting to the non-hole end,  where you are faced with six target zones that decrease in size as you get further away.

The second key training aid of the mat is to help you strike the ball positively. This works thanks to the dashed lines at 3-feet, 6-feet and 10-feet, that provide you with the ideal backswing lengths and allignment lines for that particular length of putt.

Pros: Perfect for winter pratise in the warm, easily transportable and simple to use.
Cons: £80 may seem a steep alternative to visiting your golf club over the winter.
