The Ball Striker Alignment Towel is ‘cut from the same cloth’, offering an innovative solution for ball striking alignment and proper understanding of swing path, turf interaction, and trajectory control. That sounds like a lot for what’s essentially a humble golf towel with a strip cut out of the middle, right?
It’s not until you open up the double-sided towel for the first time and try to decipher what the various lettering and geometric patterns are telling you to do, that you realize there is more than meets the eye to this towel, which yes, also can provide a typical towel-esque function.
Luckily, however, as with all the Me and My Golf ensemble, the Ball Striker towel is accompanied by a mini-series of five videos from founders Piers Ward and Andy Proudman to help you extract the most from the product – and I strongly advise you do for this one! The videos include drills for iron striking, chipping, using bounce, chipping arc, and how to vary ball flight.
How can the towel can help your game?
Side ‘A’ to the towel is designed to improve confidence with a range of shots from wedges to woods. A simple yet effective lettering system helps to visualize and understand how the clubhead moves through the turf, with one of the videos using an aborted plane landing analogy to help with confidence around the green, demonstrating you don’t need to get to the back of the ball every time.
Conversely, for longer irons and fairway woods, the system helps you to picture hitting the ball first, then the turf, which can be made increasingly challenging by folding the towel and reducing the grass between the fabric and the ball.
The slightly busier-looking Side ‘B’ to the towel is strategically designed to help with trajectory control, demonstrated effectively via another short video that describes how to use the towel for setting up to hit both a low and high approach from 150 yards to the same flag. An arced line on the towel also helps reinforce rotation through impact to help with consistency of strike.
Today’s Golfer Verdict
Overall, there’s not a lot to grumble about with this innovative and affordable training aid from Me and My Golf which can be used at the driving range or practice ground. The towel’s simplicity of use and the immediate visual feedback provided are a big thumbs up here, as often these can be hurdles to practicing for golfers who just want to get out on the course. The other main strength lies in its versatility, enabling you to experiment with a variety of shots and ball trajectories.
While it is simple to use, extracting full value will only come through watching the accompanying training videos and replicating the drills advised. I’d suggest taking the time to fix it squarely to the ground using the corner holes provided and giving each drill your full focus so you can hone a particular technique. Given the low-cost price point, versatility, ease of use, and portability, it’s hard to find a reason why the vast majority of golfers wouldn’t take a learning or two away.
