The GolfBuddy World Platinum is a brilliant piece of kit from a company quickly growing in stature and reputation in the golf industry.
Our testers liked the functions available on the World Platinum and were equally impressed at the lack of any download or subscription costs once the device has been purchased.
However, again Ian, Peter and Terry said they would prefer a toggle system to the touch screen and that ultimately cost the GolfBuddy in the race for top spot.
That said, the list of targets and the green zoom function were top notch as were the graphics and the automatic course and hole recognition. In fact, you can turn the GolfBuddy on at the first tee and not touch it for the rest of the round if you so desire but you’ll get more out of it if you use the touch screen function to improve course management.
One comment consistent with all testers was that the screen could have been a little brighter but that wouldn’t put them off buying the World Platinum.
RATINGS (out of five):
Ease of use: 3.8
Functions: 4.0
Styling: 3.6
Value: 3.9
Overall: 4 stars
The World Platinum is GolfBuddy’s most advanced GPS system and it comes with a massive course library of 28,000 courses worldwide and counting – at no extra cost. There are a host of features including a colour touch screen with TouchPoint technology meaning you can get the distance to any point on the hole simply by tapping the screen. The angle of approach to the green changes depending on your position too while you can move the flag anywhere on the green.

When it works the functionality of the GolfBuddy World Platinum is good. Unfortunately the one I have is VERY unreliable. It crashes and requires re-booting regularly - in fact I have NEVER been able to play a whole round without it requiring a re-boot. It can happen 5 or 6 times a round which makes scoring impossible to keep accurately as some of these re-boots mean the scores are lost. I've contacted the customer services on numerous occasions and have never been given anything resembling a solution. I just get asked to re-set the unit and update the firmware - which I have done regularly anyway. It is a shame but I would cation anyone thinking about buying one of these units to think again.
