Technology
Boasts a four-inch LCD touchscreen, the largest and highest resolution screen of all handheld devices, and it’s claimed to give smartphone levels of speed when touched. Light taps and swipe gestures are recognised immediately by the screen, allowing the golfer to get instant distances to any point on any colour overhead hole layout, while the Touch ‘N’ Move flag function operates at superfast speeds. The PT4 also feels like a smartphone in the hand, being just 16mm thick – around 42% slimmer than the Platinum, last year’s TG Gold Award winner. Dynamic Green View, shot distance measurement, a replaceable lithium battery and full score and stats tracking system are all included. 37,000 CP, AHA, ACR. 42% slimmer than last year’s Gold-winning Platinum.

As reviewed in our 2014 Distance Devices Test – winner of our Silver Award: You notice the larger screen, but not sure it enhances the overall experience. It certainly looks like a phone, but is thicker. The moveable cursor tee shot distance displays the number really big so it covers a lot of the hole. Nice graphics with lots of detail. Had to acknowledge a change of hole a couple of times, but really enjoyed the scoring functionality and how the front distance adjusted for the angle of approach. Looks and works very much like a smartphone. Like the full touchscreen navigation and the bright screen was easy to see in dim conditions. Liked the movable pin, but didn’t feel like the enhanced green mode added anything especially useful. Found it hard to move the cursor around and then get rid of it.

Best gps out there?
You pays your money and you takes your chance, but with other caddies, you often then have to continue paying money per year or per course you download. This one has it all though so once you've paid, it ends there. The screen is good, although some older golfers may need to take their glasses with them (I'm getting to that point) for some of the smaller numbers, however that isn't a problem. Has more features than I will ever use but over all a very nice addition to the bag!

Mobile phone style handset, awesome screen
Screen is nice and bright, colours for course detail are shown well in sunlight, and screen is very responsive. Picking out areas to layup to is simple and works really well. The GPS moves around the holes faultlessly and apart from one crash (first round I played) it's works well, even picking up the course straight away on power up. In fact I simply press the power button on the putting green and by the time I'm on the first tee the unit is ready and waiting showing the course correctly and set for the first tee. The unit came with two screen protectors, which like a mobile phone are very easy to install and protects the screen from scratches when in use, but the reversible device caddy that clips to the bag is a great idea and protects the device after use. A small micro usb charger is also includes, but I've been using my phone charger with no issues. Waterproof cabilities have been proven on a number of times now too :) Of course the big question mark will be accuracy and I can confirm that it matches other units. When I've played with friends they are all showing the same distances (Garmin is a little off, but same as Skycaddie), will be testing their support now as I've just informed them of course changes and will now see if they remap the changes.

GolfBuddy PT4
Just received the PT4 last week and had a couple of rounds with it already at Craigie Hill GC, Perth. Great for accuracy as regards distances to front, centre and back of greens, as well as hazzards on the course. Like the pin movement facility for each green to give greater accuracy and reasonably simple to input shots for each hole. Once connected to your computer the download of recent rounds played is quick and the statistics given show you where the pracitce is needed. Good display with impressive screen size/resolution and easy one-touch operation. The swivel clip works well enough but hope GolfBuddy or Powakaddy bring out a specific holder for fitting to your golf cart, so as to make it easier to read on the move. So far, so good and look forward to finding out more about my golf, as the stats begin to show specific patterns/trends emerging.
