What we say...

The Blue Tees Series 4 Ultra has been released to the market and looks set to be their best model yet! But if you already have a laser in your bag, should you be upgrading to the Series 4 in 2025?

Designing fresh takes in the rangefinder category is hard, whether you’re creating one of the best lasers on the market, or responsible for making the best GPS devices. The Blue Tees Series 4 Ultra, however, is proof that there’s still plenty of options for the most innovative brands to bring to market.

Blue Tees certainly aren’t new to the style or technology sections of golf lasers and rangefinders, so they do have a good idea of what the market wants and needs, but finding ways to subtly improve their products has been an element of the brand that really helps it stand out.

Not happy to sit back and rely on goodwill or reputation alone, the company are releasing a new model to the market in the guise of the Blue Tees Series 4 Ultra, and there’s good cause to call it their best product yet.

Looks and Design – 5/5

The Blue Tees Series 4 Ultra will still be familiar to those who have experience with the brand. I’ve opined before about the mixture of modern and classic looks that Blue Tees seems to be able to balance, unlike many others, with the previous Series 3 Max laser. The Series 4 Ultra is no different, with the sleek ergonomic ridging that encircles the casing making a comfortable modern design feature, while also bringing to mind a feeling of ‘vintage’ that sits in that difficult-to-find timeless position.

There is a slightly altered underside to the Series 4 compared to the Series 3 Max, but it’s still sturdy and easy to hold onto. I’ve had the Blue Tees Series 4 Ultra in the hands of several senior golfers as a test, and they’ve all given positive feedback as to the weight balance and grip with arthritic hands.

It might seem trivial, but it’s valuable information that opens the Series 4 up to more of the market that prefers a handheld device over wearing a GPS watch.

The Blue Tees Series 4 Ultra has advanced slope functionality

Technology – 4/5

As lasers go, there are plenty of options on the market that offer a jack-of-all-trades approach, like Garmin’s Z82 laser, that combine GPS functionality with the pinpoint accuracy of a laser, but sometimes it’s refreshing to see a device focus on doing one thing exceptionally well instead of spreading themselves thin.

The Blue Tees Ultra is, without any doubt, one of the fastest-to-locate lasers I’ve ever used. I have been incredibly impressed by the speed at which I’ve been able to scan pins in every mode, and the feedback from pulse vibration is clear and obvious. Not that the vibrations need to be, though.

The OLED display is outstanding in its clarity and the brightness, which sometimes borders on too bright in lower-lighter conditions (although this is adjustable in five different levels), makes it simple to tell what you’re targeting. Coupled with the OLED is another new feature in the Auto-Depth Filter, a design that allows for the Series 4 to automatically refocus for variable distance, meaning you don’t need to stand there for any unnecessary amount of time trying to figure out whether you’re locking onto the the flag or the trees behind it.

Overall, this is a really tidy collection of technology that, while not encompassing everything that the highest-end models can do, does what it’s designed for extremely efficiently, making my rounds of golf a lot simpler and easier when I’m not zapping trees behind the flag half the time.

There are three modes for the Blue Tees Series 4 Ultra

Performance – 5/5

Let’s say it again, because I really am that impressed with it – this is one of the fastest lasers I’ve ever used, along with being an incredibly accurate one.

I’ve been out for three rounds with the Blue Tee Series 4 Ultra since it arrived, and there’s been zero issues using the laser, including with the multiple modes on offer. Switching between the three settings is simple with a single press of the ‘mode’ button, which changes the laser from Scan to Active Tracking and vice versa.

Scan mode is going to let you scan (shocking, I know) as you go by holding down the power button. This mode, I’ve found, is great for looking for layup yardages and giving you a rough idea of what hazards are and aren’t in range as you look down the fairway. Once you’re in range, you can switch to Active Tracking for locking into the target. The final mode is Active Tracking but without Slope mode on, and is the setting you’ll want for competitive play.

The final element that I want to briefly talk about could’ve been mentioned in the Technology section, but I honestly think the difference it makes on the golf course puts into the Performance rating for how easy it makes playing with the Series 4 Ultra.

The Magnetic Strip on the rangefinder itself isn’t anything new to Blue Tees fans, or other brands for that matter, letting you easily attach the laser to the outside of the buggy or onto your golf cart.

What I like even more, however, is that the case of Series 4 Ultra also has a small stripe of metal embedded into it. As a stand bag user, I love how this helps hold the rangefinder in place with the zip of the case open, meaning fast and easy access while still trusting the security of the case.

It’s only a little thing, and, honestly, I’m saving maybe ten seconds at most (five taking it out, five putting it back away again), but it makes me more comfortable than fiddling with zips in the winter with how little I can feel my fingers in the cold, and whatever we can do to help speed up any elements of play are a real positive in my mind.

The case for the Blue Tees Series 4 Ultra has a magnet for security

Overall – 4.5/5

There’s nothing to really fault with the Blue Tees Series 4 ultra, so I’m a little loathe to give it less than the full five out of five (even if we’re only half a star away).

Functionally, this laser works as well as any other on the market, and I really like the different modes and brightness options that come built into the unit. It sits nicely in my hands, the weight is nicely balanced for stability, and the OLED is clear and precise to look through.

The only two faults that I can find are that the price, historically a selling point for Blue Tees devices, is starting to creep up towards where the premium brands sit at and the Series 4 Ultra doesn’t offer the complete package that something like the Garmin Approach Z82 can.

On both of those points, the Garmin is still nearly double the price of this, so those features quite literally come at a price, and on the cost of the Blue Tees, they’re offering a premium quality product so maybe that does afford them some breathing room in the argument around a premium product price.

One thing I will guarantee, though, is that regardless of price, you’ll not be disappointed with anything of the on-course performance on offer.
