What we say...
There’s no need to choose between Laser and GPS with the Blue Tees Golf Player Pack, a complete collection that offers you the best of both styles without the difficulty of deciding which.
Over the last few months, I’ve been testing some of the best distance-measuring devices in golf. From my experiences with all these models, both new and old, there are two clear pieces of feedback that I have.
1) Most devices have a compromise between total precision and versatility.
2) The few units that do offer both come at a much higher price.
That first point comes from the fact that you have a choice in what you go for when it comes to measuring distance. You can either take up a laser, which will give you an exact yardage to your target, or you can pick a GPS watch or handheld, which are great for giving rough distances or helping on a blind shot but can’t always be as precise as the laser.
Now there are some choices that do bridge that gap – the Garmin Approach Z82 is a great example of this – but when you combine the two performances into a single device the cost will often scale in price to match that jump in technology.
So is there a way of gaining both uses without also paying the literal price? Blue Tees thinks they’ve got the solution with their Player Pack, which offers their handheld GPS, the Speaker GO, as well as the Series 3 Max E Laser in one complete package.
While it’s more than a single unit, Blue Tees are giving you all the options you could need on the course while also saving you money. I’ve been using the Player Pack for several rounds now, and I think I’ve got the answer.
Looks – 5/5
The Player Pack’s box makes for a cool first-opening experience. It’s a simple design with black and white advertising around the edge of the packaging explaining the products within. Opening it up, there’s a clean presentation of both devices, with the Speaker GO mounted left and the Series 3 laser on the right. There’s also a neat little branded divot tool, that I wasn’t expecting, at the top of the box.
Both devices are clean to look at with an understated logo and soft lines to define their edges. This works to their advantage with both featuring magnetic strips on the back of the products to easily attach them to the golf cart or buggy you’re using. Those soft edges mean that the laser and speaker blend into whatever they’re stuck on – a minor detail, but one that improves their appeal and makes their presence feel more subtle.
The Speaker GO is a pill-shaped model that I can just about wrap my hand around when it’s sat in my palm. It’s not small, but you’ll notice it for sure. I think this works in its favor, in that you’re always sure that the button you’re pushing is the correct choice and not a different one by accident.
The Series 3 Max E Laser is similarly sized to the Speaker GO but the style switches to a ribbed look that loops around the top of the unit. The ribbing is stylish but has a great second purpose of giving you a stronger grasp without the pressure when using the laser.

Technology – 4/5
As we’ve done a full review on both of the included products, I’ll provide a quick summary of both and you can follow the links for a fuller explanation of the technology on offer. Individually, the Laser and Speaker earned 3/5 marks for Technology, but judging them together they’ve earned a bump up to a 4/5 as we’re treated the Player Pack as a single unit.
Speaker GO GPS:
Immediately available to you are Front, Middle, and Back yardages as well as more than 40,000 golf venues through the Blue Tees app. Your closest options are also found with the Auto-Recognition function via GPS lock-on. The app allows customized feedback for you by way of the Action button, with a mix of features and yardages available, which you can set up quickly and easily, but there’s also the option for dedicated music options like track-skipping if you want to have more control of your playlist while on the go.
Series 3 Max E Laser:
This model includes some carryover features as well as enhancements from the previous generation of Blue Tees lasers. It includes target and vibration lock up to 1000 yards away, making it a great multi-sport unit. There’s also Slope Mode, giving you accurate distances while also being tournament-legal, and my highlight of the Max E is the viewfinder’s HUD can be switched between Red and Black displays, great for adapting to different light conditions.
Performance – 5/5
Playing with both Blue Tees devices has made my rounds genuinely more enjoyable! To get the best use out of the pair (and to enjoy the last of the decent weather in October) I’ve taken a cart out for the rounds I’ve played.
Being out in the cart has given me a great opportunity to test both devices, with both magnetically stuck to the edge of the windshield giving me convenience in accessing both. The Speaker GO is probably my favorite of the two, mainly because it’s more of a novelty to me to have music playing on the golf course as I work my way around, but having the pair means I’m prepared for any challenge I need.
Speaker GO has been great for any blind shots I needed to get a yardage on while I can be more precise with the Series 3 when within eyesight of the flagstick. I’ve said about the options of an all-in-one device, but I’ve not actually noticed a difference in speed between pressing the button on either the front of the Speaker or the top of the Laser versus finding the right selection in the all-in-one.
Overall, I like the versatility of using both devices. If I’m only in need of one or the other, I can take what I want and go, which is often the case. But having both next to me just gives me a sense of security, and the speed of access only helps with this.
Final Verdict – 14/15
I don’t know if I want to go back to playing how I was before. I’ve often held myself up as a golfer who doesn’t need to rely on having any electronic aid but playing with the Player Pack collection has got as close to me changing my mind on that as I’ve got so far.
The sheer accessibility of the magnetic back to both models means they’re incredibly versatile for however you want to play your golf (I’ve even slapped the Speaker GO onto one of my wedges to take down to the driving range for convenience!) and it sets them apart from most other options out on the market.
Ultimately, this combo boxset is of high-quality product, offering you everything you need for your golf experience, at a stellar price point. If you’re interested in moving into a new rangefinder or GPS unit, the Blue Tees Player Pack is never going to be a downgrade.
