Cradoc Golf Club

Cradoc Golf Club is a 38-year-old, 6188-yard, par 71 parkland golf course two miles outside Brecon alongside the Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales. It has grown in reputation over the years, continuing to host the Coors Tournament of Welsh Golf Club Champions for 28 years and recently the PGA Mid Wales Open.

Cradoc was voted Welsh Golf Club of the Year 2005 by the Welsh Golfing Union and will host the Welsh Ladies Golf Union Team Championship in 2009.

  You started well and are a couple under your handicap as you walk off the sixth green at Cradoc. You have overcome some challenging holes, not least the sixth with its sloping fairway which takes the best of drives over to the right rough and, if you're not careful, behind some trees. The seventh tee gives you a view of what looks like a fairly straightforward par 3 and, wow, you've hit the green (again! says your partner under his/her breath)! As you walk towards the green dreaming of birdies your partner draws your attention to the view. Because you are feeling very pleased with yourself you feel that taking in the surrounding landscape will only enhance your feeling that all is right with the world. Big mistake! On your left are the Brecon Beacons, one of the most stunning vistas in Europe. There also now lies your golf game as you slowly but surely come out of "the zone" and into the real (albeit stunning) world around you. You 3 putt! From this point on you can truly take in the excellent views at beautiful Cradoc Golf course as your opponent completely ignores them and by playing frustratingly safe golf slowly overhauls you and leaves you in the dust - well not literally in the dust as the lush fairways at Cradoc are usually moist and forgiving as your irons produce exquisitely formed divots! Oh and now that the fire has gone out of your game you can also look forward to the 19th earlier than the 18th. The food is excellent quality and value for money and the drink........well suffice it to say that after a few you'll be looking forward to your next round and this time you won't be caught out. What view?!!!

  Very pleasant course overall, excellent venue for societies as it is quite wide and open. Has a few holes where you plky the ball above or below your feet after hitting perfect drives which is a bit harsh!!. The incoming sixth and the outgoing 14th are example of where a nailed drive to the middle of the fairway actually penalises you as on the sixth the ball will run down behind the trees in the summer and the outgoing 14th they have placed a rediculous bunker in the landing spot of a good drive of typical club golfer length? Excellent driving range and chipping green  to get you warmed up on before hand
