What we say
Wernddu Golf Centre is a family-run golf club set on the outskirts of the market town of Abergavenny. The golf course is south-west facing on a well-drained soil and its layout complements the contours of the previous fruit farm.
There are magnificent views over the Usk valley and the seven hills of Abergavenny.
The warm, friendly clubhouse serves meals and light snacks in the lounge bar and conservatory. A small golf shop provides all the essentials for your game.
A warm welcome awaits you at Wernddu.

When we first turned up we were a bit apprehensive as it's got a camp site and the driving range was in poor condition. But once out on the course we were very pleasantly surprised. Excellent course in great condition with challenges for all handicaps. Best value we've found so far. Can't wait to return soon.

The course is a difficult layout and over the years the so called easy nine has become tight with strategically place ponds , bunkers and trees. Ok the bunkers are a bit rough at times but the course is about the only one around which never closes. Anyone calling the second and tenth stupidly long needs to watch the television coverage, golf is getting longer!! Overall a good course with a great welcome.

I and a few other friends are members of this course. We jointly accept that this is the best course in the South Wales area. The scenery is picturesque and delightful....the course plays very well. There have been some minor problems in the past but try it now! It's the best value for money golf course...our thanks to the organisers. We certainly love it here that provides buggies without restrictions and staff is very willing, polite and helpful in every way.

I am sorry that two of your reviewers felt it necessary to submit negative comments about Wernddu. It is true that we have experienced a few problems on the course, but this was largely due to the adverse weather conditions over the last few months. Unlike a number of other courses in our area who were shut for a number of weeks, we remained open, and this was to our detriment with our course not being up to the standard that it should have been. Over the last few weeks many of the negative comments have now been addressed, and I would invite the critics to give our course another try. I think they will be pleasantly surprised. We are a friendly forward looking club, with a healthy membership, and very active sections, e.g Ladies, Seniors, and Juniors. We have a fully computerised handicap system, also our own facebook page which I hope reviewers will visit to see how attractive our course is. We also have an onsite caravan park, where many rebook each year to enjoy our facilities, and play our course. Yes there is still more to do, we are a work in progress, but as the title says we are a course for golfers.

I am saddened by the negative views printed on this page. I am a lady member at Wernddu and have been for 4 years. It is the friendliest club I have ever been to from the greenkeeper to the owner and everyone in between. It is a good honest club, no pretentions. Ok so the greens leave a lot to be desired at times, but then the weather has been absolutely foul. I suggest those who are slagging it off go and play elsewhere and pay the exorbitant green fees for the sort of course they would like to play! I am sure that if our membership and green fees were increased to something ridiculously high, the standards would be improved - but then none of us could afford to play there and it would become yet another snobby club. What is best about Wernddu are the people, both staff and members, the atmosphere and the challenge of playing in different conditions. It is unique and I for one love it and do not want it to change.

Forgot to add that bunkers were just solid mud although these days this isnot uncommon and on course facilities poor such as missing or broken ball cleaners. The patio area outside is nice but again the rest of the place (golf range, toilets, changing rooms) were shabby. There are plenty of courses with some poor elements as I have mentioned but not everyrhing. I am not a member of any course. Owners need to take note.

Worst 18 hole golf course I've ever played ! Looks nice and very picturesque but that's all. Greens an absolue joke. Cut like my garden. Youhave to whack the ball so hard it takes the break out. Fairways like rough so no run. They were badly cutting the fairways saturday afternoon. Heavy levels of cut grass. And mowers did not stop as you were passing. What makes it the worst is the layout. What was likely 9 holes only originally was ok. Par 3's and sensible par 4's. The other holes across a road are also a joke. Two Stupidly long par 5's one up hill. With no run on the ball took four to get there. Could be a nice course but needs a couple of years being maintained properly and some redesign by moving some tees. Really don't know how people are members there. Avoid at all cost even on 2-4-1.

How can someone from Bryn Meadows slag off any course in the world. Its a society run course with no thought for the members. Its never in good condition and always packed full of society's. Im not saying Wernddu is any good but I know where Id rather play. By the way Im not a member of either so a fair response.
