Vale of Llangollen Golf Club

What we say

Nestling on the banks of the River Dee and overlooked by the glorious Welsh hills this Championship course with its manicured fairways and superb greens, attracts golfers from far afield. One of only a handful of Welsh courses that holds the HSBC Gold Medal ranking, it is a highly favoured venue for many of the County, Professional and Welsh Amateur events. This Championship course offers a great test of golf amidst a spectacular setting.

Llangollen town is special too! Millions of people from all over the world know Llangollen as the home of the International Musical Eisteddfod held in July. Others come for the white water canoeing championships or the steam railway or even the horse drawn canal cruises over the world heritage Pontcysllte viaduct. Others come for the superb salmon and grayling fishing in the River Dee. There are lots of bars, hotels and restauarants. Its the ideal venue for your next trip!

The great thing about this course, is pretty much the whole golfing experience.  Finding it, is tricky as the entrance is almost on a blind bend, but that's fine; leave early and you'll be rewarded with the facilities. The changing facilities are probably their weakest point, but they're still quite good.  Large open space, but only a few showers; but we only golf in 4 balls.  The practice facilities are excellent.  But you have to walk down a steep incline to get to them.  Some golfers will genuinely need a buggy to get there and back. The food has been excellent every time I been.  Breakfasts and main courses have always been of a standard I'd get in a restaurant.  But the key thing is the golf itself.  The course has always been in great condition, so respect to the ground staff.  The greens are tough but fair, the fairways are a delight and the tees are level; what more can you ask for?  But the thing that made the biggest impression was to see the ball fly with a green bacground , rather than blue.  The valley is so deep in places, your ball doesn't get over the hills. There is one dodgy hole though, but maybe I just hate saddleback greens.  It's impossible to par!  Go and see for yourself.

Just played this lovely course, the setting is beautiful, especially if you do get some sun, which in october is a welcome sight. Green fee was reduced because of work on approx. 7 greens, so temps in play and some other greens were also affected. Tricky first hole with tight drive, then nice mixture of mid length par 4's and one par 3 on front nine, with the pick of the bunch being 9th, with river flowing down right side. Back nine not as picturesque as front but, testing holes at 10, 13, 16 and 17th. One point for visitors, no course plan on scorecard makes for tricky navigating from green to tee, you might want to have a compass handy!!

This course is one of the best i've ever played. I cannot say enough about it. Played it for £20 and it's the best £20 i've spent on golf. The course is in championship condition from tee to green. The practice facilities are superb. Two putting greens, Chipping green, two practice grounds, driving nets. On top of this, the course is set in a stunning location. Most holes have a slight dog leg and the 10th is a real test. I play off a 3 handicap so i know a good course when i see one. This course is a must for any golfer.
