The Lynedoch Golf Course

Hamilton J Stutt returned to design the Lynedoch Course and make great use of the existing natural woodland, utilised the wild flower meadows that nature intended and carved a real wee gem of a course.

Running through Scots Pine woodland and wildflower meadows the undulating fairways lead up to large testing greens. Water hazards and Bracken provide ample protection and will catch any errant golf balls.

  Played this on 28-9-14 on a beautiful sunny autumn day (last day of Ryder Cup). views from top of course were outstanding. You need a sit-in buggy to play this course- the climbs are horrendous. luckily we took one at the last minute (25 for a round)- absolutely essential. We passed sherpas twice! Some of the cart paths resembled a 4x4 course. The greens were in poor shape- bare and very sandy. There are some lovely holes but 2 or 3 are Disneyland type. 96 yards and straight up a cliff face of turf. Good facilities off course and helpful staff.

  Once the weekend's tee times had been booked by our gallant colleague, the slow realisation that we had a Saturday morning free we set about looking for a course to play that morning. As we had booked onto the Murrayshall course in the afternoon it seemed logical to book into the cheaper and (according to the locals) much less played Lynedoch course. When the professional asked us to follow the track around the back of the tennis courts to find the tee bed there we looked at each other with much sceptism! From the moment we teed off to the last putt we were in golfing heaven, (the sunniest day of the year probably helped), each hole was a challenge-no simple hit, walk to the ball, hit, walk and a couple of putts. this course gets you thinking about every shot, from dog legs, blind shots, well guarded greens, narrow fairways to 100 yard par 3's (sound much easier when reading about it) to a beautiful driving hole. The tee bed is set about 200 yards above the green which is a drive of near 400 yards. We all had to go for it, we all failed miserably but boy did it feel good. Sitting in the clubhouse we all agreed that during our six years of visits this was probably our favourite course. Whilst it is set on a hill, (for those who like it a bit more leisurley buggies are available), every hole makes the climb worthwhile. And at £12.50 with your 2fore1's you really cannot go wrong.
