St Andrews, Strathtyrum Golf Course
Last updated:
What we say
Opened in 1993, Strathtyrum was designed to be a shorter and more fun alternative to the other championship tests on offer.
Donald Steel's creation – at the time the first new golf build at St Andrews for 80 years – includes only 15 bunkers. Yet it manages to remain an authentic golf test for the average player.

A decent enough course, and as part of the St Andrew's Links courses then everything is in excellent order. It is a beginners course as there are only a handful of bunkers and not much in the way of challenge. There are plenty double greens as an introduction to that concept and they are fairly big and the rough is friendly. On the downside is it's all a bit flat with not much to see and there isn't much difference between the holes. The facilities are shared by all the courses though they are excellent but not beside the course so you'd need to use the car to get to them. An enjoyable experience and I would play it again as it is excellent value.
