Glen Golf Club (North Berwick)

What we say

The unsung hero of the wondrous East Lothian coast, home of awesome links layouts such as Muirfield, North Berwick and Gullane. In truth you can’t really put The Glen into that exalted company but it is nevertheless an outstanding clifftop course in its own right and includes several memorable holes with the blind, beachside par-3 13th standing out. There’s bags of drama starting from the uphill par-4 opener to the sensational, driveable par-5 climax which, from the elevated tee, provides some breathtaking views of North Berwick town and the Firth of Forth. Once you reach the top of the hill the views of the Bass Rock , Fife and the town are simply stunning. The course’s signature hole is the 13th, or Sea Hole, as it is known. A blind par-3 to a green framed by beach and rocks to the back and right, it is Pebble Beach or Cypress Point with a Scottish twist.

The Glen Golf Club runs along the coast line and offers plenty of excellent views across the sea and of the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock.

The signature 13th hole is a 148-yard, par-3 with a blind tee-shot to a green surrounded by beach and rocks. Similar to Pebble Beach's 7th, this a hole that won't be forgotten any time soon.

Just booked for round in Feb. Know it to be a great course and wouldn't dissuade anyone from playing it. But told just now that would not accept 2fore1 because rates are already half price. The information on low/high season by day of the week really needs to be updated to reflect this otherwise 2fore1 is pointless.

This is a really excellent Links course with some parkland thrown in for good measure. Although not championship length, it is a very good test of golf, especially when the wind blows. (Almost every day) The greens are fast and true. The fairways are well groomed and the rough, although penal, is not as difficult now as it has been in previous years. The views throughout your round are fantastic and regardless of how you play, you will enjoy yourself. The new clubhouse is large and modern and has everything the golfer needs, right down to a large television in the locker rooms.

We travelled up from Swindon and visited the Glen with a mate who lives in Motherwell. It's fair to say that we had a wonderful round on this superb links course, helped in no doubt by the unseasonably warm, dry weather. There's a great variety of holes here and the stretch along the cliffs as you head back to the clubhouse is truly spectacular. The club still has it's old clubhouse (hence the 3 stars for facilities), but the new clubhouse is now open. We are planning another visit at the end of April 2007, so will be able to use the new facilities this time around.

Played here as the last leg of a golf holiday in August '06. Very picturesque clifftop course with many of the holes overlooking the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock. Enjoyed the round very much as it was much easier here than at some of it's links neighbours. We recieved a very warm welcome from the starter, and had excellent fish and chips afterwards in the newly built clubhouse. The only downside to the course was the very small carpark and when we played the greens were slow.
