Moffat Golf Club

Short and sweet is the best way to describe ultra-scenic Moffat which sits in the heart of the southern uplands in Scottish border country.

The handiwork of Ben Sayers, it’s always in good condition and is a fine example of a moorland layout. Despite it’s obvious lack of yardage, you can still come unstuck – particularly at the par-3 9th where you need to take careful aim to find a green sitting atop a rockface. You’ll never forget the 18th too, a driveable par 4 with breathtaking panoramic views.

Up in the Scottish hills lies this moorland golf course with some great little holes. The par-3 9th requires an accurate tee shot to hit the green sitting atop a rockface.

The driveable par-4 finishing hole will be remembered fondly with it's excellent panoramic views across the Scottish hills. The ambitious will go for the green, but need to be aware of the burn running across the green waiting to catch any loose balls.

  Located just off J15 of the M74, Moffat is a 135 year old club that has a reputation of being a shorty but a toughy. At under 5000yds off the yellows some people would not bother with it, thinking that it’s not enough of a challenge. How wrong can you be! A beautiful moorland course that will really test any golfer if the wind is blowing. The course commands wonderful views across the delightful Scottish countryside and is indeed a joy to play. In the clubhouse the usual Scottish hospitality is in abundance which makes it all the more enjoyable. The food is simple but plentiful and real value for money. Their signature hole is the 9th, a par 3 of 127yds but from the tee all you can see is the face of a cliff, just don’t be short! I think the 18th also requires a special mention with views of the clubhouse and the town beyond. The driver can come into use on many of the holes with some accommodating fairways, but accuracy is needed on all the par 3’s to avoid trouble. Our small society visit every year and we can’t wait to return! Really great value for money and worth a visit to a Scottish oldie!
