This Championship golf course is an Open qualifying course and offers a true test of links golf. At just over 7000 yards, this is no easy test and with four sets of tees you can choose the appropriate one to test your skills.
 
The club has another nine-hole course to offer to visitors and has an excellent clubhouse and shop.

  having played most of the other top Ayrshire course, the 27 holes on offer here rank as the best i have played during 2010. The main course is just short of 6900yds with no two holes facing the same direction. there are no blind holes and both the tees and greens are in fantastic condition.Play it once and fall in love! the only bad point is that this club still has a waiting list to join. i think that shows the quality more than any other comment.   Barassie is a magnifcent set up with the new 18th a challenging finishing hole for any championship course. I don't know where Paddy was playing, for if he could see Royal Troon across the fence he was NOT at Barassie. Might have been Old Prestwick which is the only course where you can see Royal Troon and they do have a visitors room. Members are very welcome at Barassie and the food is very good..

  I have played Barassie a few time and while I agree the original layout was better the criticism of the course by the first review is unjustified in my view. How can anybody say Barassies greens and tees are poor is beyond me.

  This was once a great links course. They then added 9 extra holes to make three loops and managed to ruin the place. Some very challenging holes with large greens and plenty of gorse to catch wayward shots. VISITORS ARE TREATED AS SECOND CLASS CITIZENS AND ARE ASKED TO HEVE THEIR POST ROUND REFRESHMENTS IN A SEPARATE ROOM TO THE MEMBERS. A MOST UNFORTUNATE AND SAD REFLECTION ON THE SMALL MINDED INADEQUACIES OF THE MEMBERSHIP. Otherwise a reasonably enjoyable day which is enhanced by the ability to look over the fence to the magnificent course of Royal Troon. Will not return however.
