An Open qualifier when The Open is at Troon and was the co-host of the 2003 Amateur Championship.

In other words, a classic links. It’s full of quirks and charm and is one for the shotmaker – the turf is exquisite – rather than the ‘bomber.’

Irvine Golf Club, Bogside is a traditional Links Course owing much of it's character to the famous Golf Course Architect, James Braid, who designed many of Scotland's most famous Courses (including Turnberry and Gleneagles)

The Course can best be described as Links and Heathland. The fairways are built on sand and are divided by gorse and heather. Every hole has it's own identity and the Greens are traditionaly the best that can be found in the area.
The Course is not long by present day standards (6,423 yards) but demands accurate shot making.

It has produced three Scottish Champions in Hammy McInally, Jimmy Walker and Jack Cannon. (At one time the Club could boast of three Scottish Champions playing in the Monthly Medals).

   Played this course in Sept. and found it to be in excellent condition.Off the Yellow tees the course has 16 Par 4's and 2 Par 3's but dont let this put you off as there are a nice variety of holes. The shorter Par 4's are a challenge and the longer ones are a stern test where keeping your ball out of the heather is a must. The greens were superb easily the equal of any I've played in recent years. I was given a warm welcome by the Caddiemaster and the Clubhouse is an impressive old building steeped in history. All in all the course is a tough test especially on your first visit but if you're serious about your golf and in the area this course is well worth a visit.

  Very very tough track, if your not on your A game bring plenty of balls as the heather is frightening. Course management is the key here and not just stepping up with the big stick. Special mention for the outstanding greens, I can say that they are the best I putted on all year.

  I found this so so hard. It was windy and even my best drive was going nowhere. But the course was beautiful and i want to play it in the summer
