Girvan Golf Course

After being designed by James Braid, there has been few alterations to this course since 1902 and will test golfers with it's pure Scottish links. With the same views towards Ailsa Craig as it's neighbour, Turnberry, golfers will be in for a treat when they play this course.

With half the course playing as a links and the other half more parkland, this track will provide a varied offering for any visitor.

  When you drive up to teh car park and portacabin, you wonder what you have let yourself in for. Ok, so there's a decent view over Ailsa Craig (much better than the view from Turnbury it has to be said) but what kind of a course IS this? Having paid your £16 (or less if you use your 2 Fore 1 voucher) and shown the 1st tee the fun really starts. And I mean fun. The first 8 holes are classic, raw links. When I played, there was only a murmur of wind, but you'd better have your A game with you when the wind blows.  The last 10 are much more inland, and a bit quirky from 15, but you will  still need to keep yuor wits about you. Long it isn't. Tough? Probably not by comparison to some of it's neighbours, but it was in good shape when I payed in May and for value for money, you'd have to be VERY lucky to beat Girvan.

  A very friendly welcome. Definitely a course of 2 contrasting halves. 8 holes of classical west coast links and 10 holes of fairly ordinary parkland but worth playing as the links holes are excellent and overlook the sea and Ailsa Craig.
