What we say
Only an hour away from the historic courses of St Andrews and Carnoustie, Brechin Golf Club is more of a hidden gem in this area but provides a good test of golf to all standards of golfer.
The par-72 parkland course offers a course in excellent condition with rolling hills and contours and great views of the Grampian Hills. Long par-3s and driveable par-4s make this a fun course to play.
Visitors are welcome to relax in the clubhouse afterwards and enjoy food and drink after their round.

Very nice course with friendly staff in both pro shop and club house. Course will be a great callenge in a few years time when the trees mature. Will definitely be back.

I was a member at Brechin prior to returning to Montrose Links this season (which is a brilliant links course). Brechin offers the best of both worlds, the front nine is played in three triangles. Holes 1-3 are fairly straightforward, albeit a blind drive down the first, lateral water hazard and out of bounds on the second, and a couple of bunkers and a water hazard protecting the par 3 third. Holes 4-6 will be more of a test when the trees age on this newer part of the course. The 4th is a long par 5 especially into a headwind that swirls down from the Angus Glens, the 5th looks like a simple par 3 but be warned you need to take 2 clubs extra to land the green, the 6th is a dog leg left which poses no trouble, big hitters can launch over the trees and look to pick up a shot here. Holes 7-9 again are in a different triangle, the 7th is a long par 5, the 8th is an interesting hole, you either play through the gap in the trees to the lay up point, or run the risk of O.O.B. or being a lumberjack taking on the huge trees in front of you especially off of the medal tees. The back nine is the mature part of the course and offers great scenery and some testing golf. If you can start 4-4-4-4 you are doing well (and you will still be over par!)Holes 14 and 15 are long straight holes, accuracy is required to gain a par. The 16th is my favourite hole on the course, a nasty 494 yds dog leg left with trees evrywhere (I should know!) bunker traps and an undulating green. Play it as a par 6 then you don't need to beat up on yourself :-) The 17th is fairly straightforward although it is an uphill carry and an interesting sloped green protected by bunkers. Finally the 18th is reached by crossing the bridge back towards the clubhouse, it is a blind drive dog leg right. Easily hit in regulation you can sink that putt, and walk off with a smile in front of the members sitting at the clubhouse windows. The clubhouse itself is excellent, the beer cold and the catering superb. Overall I would recommend playing Brechin, the greens have vastly improved over the last couple of seasons, and if parkland golf is for you, you won't be disappointed.

Nice course, up and coming trees will make a good test of golf in years to come.
