The Wychwood Golf Club

What we say
Modern parkland tranquillity in the Cotswolds though there are several testing holes to overcome, including the par-3 15th which is carefully protected by a stream. The course is usually in excellent nick and you’ll particularly enjoy the USGA-spec greens.

The Wychwood Golf Club is a golf course that defies its teenage years. Situated on 170 acres of beautiful Cotswald Countryside, there are no major roads or conurbations close by. On a still day, the wildlife is all that can be heard. The golf course boasts USGA greens allowing consistency of play all year round. Our Head Greenkeeper, Richard Walthew together with his dedicated team, operate a very modern fleet of equipment to present the golf course in excellent condition throughout the year. The latest irrigation technology has been installed at the Wychwood.

As an amateur, I've been playing here for 4 years now, and am always impressed with the quality of the fairways and greens. It's quite a long course at 6600 yards, but is beautifully laid out with a great mixture of long par 5's and some tricky par 3's over water. Fairways are nice and wide, but are heavily tree lined, and in the Summer, they allow the grass to go in height to make teeing off on certain holes important to get right, otherwise you'll be searching for your ball for ever. Overall it's a stunning looking course, and I can't think of a nicer place to be on a lovely Summers afternoon. The driving range and practice putting green are also well kept. I've had a fair few lessons with Tom Field who is an excellent tutor. You'll receive a friendly welcome at the club, and if you haven't played here before, I highly recommend you do...

I have played the course as a guest three times now and even though I was impressed the first time the course has improved over time. The course is really in good condition - up there with the best. The 'signature hole' is the 8th; a par four with a 150 - 190 yard carry on your second over a stream but I much prefer the 9th, 16th and 18th which would grace most top courses in the country. All the par 3's play over water but aren't silly-long. The bar area is new and serves a good pint! I can't comment on the all-important bacon-sarnies but I'm assured they are top-quality. The only niggle is the key-code entry on the locker room - why bother? Overall, definitely worth a visit and you will find yourself coming back for more - as I will be.

The Wychwood Golf Club makes visitors very welcome showing the friendly side of what golf is all about. Wychwood staff always make you feel important and you are treated to a course which is always presented at it's best no matter what time of year you play. Green-keeping staff also deserve special mention for their attention to detail. I travel down each year from Scotland to play the course and I can highly recommend it. The course offers a good challenge to all category of golfer. There are a number of risk and reward holes for the big hitters, and the strategically placed water hazards make for an exciting challenge. Excellent park land course which belies it's age. You would think the course had been there for tens of year's as it is sits in a stunning Cotswald setting.
