Hinksey Heights Golf Club

Hinksey Heights Golf Course is an undulating heath-land and links-type course. It has a series of interesting and distinctive holes that reward the thoughtful golfer, tempting boldness with the option of playing safe.

The Championship Course full of character is testing yet fair to all standards of golfer. Visitors are always welcome to enjoy great golf in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with unsurpassed views of Oxford's Dreaming Spires' and the beautiful Thames Valley.

Fairways and greens encourage golfers to employ their 'Course Management' skills. The course provides a challenge to match the demands of open competition, company days, golf societies or group organisers. For larger numbers of players the organisers can vary difficulty by means of choice of tees, and pin placing.

  Not a bad course, but sadly let down by the 3rd hole which has an almost non-existant fairway that descends into unplayable bog and unkempt grass. One or two other bunkers still unfilled but outside of that an enjoyable course.

  Hinksey got bad reviews at first but now (2014) it is getting better and better The greens have been treated well and lots of other improvements have been made It still has things that could be better but it is a very good course for the money Friendly too.

  Played this course several times during April and May this year. We'd heard some negative reviews about the course and it's condition, but decided to check it out for ourselves. There's obviously been a lot of work done on the course since these negative reviews as we found it in very good condition. Thee we're some very testing holes to challenge even the best golfers and the clubhouse was very welcoming. I would recommend people play the course and try it for themselves, you won't regret it. :-).

  I gave up on this place a couple of years ago as it looked like it was going to the wall. There appeared to be some serious neglect going on. Never complained, just didn't bother going back. I returned, reluctantly, last week having been talked into giving it another go. Things have definitely changed for the better. It was always a lovely setting, overlooking Oxford, and the course layout was always interesting. It was great to see that the missing ingredients, namely a bit of upkeep and some love, have returned. The members and staff seem proud of what they have achieved and I really can't blame them for feeling that way. Well done to everyone for turning round a muddy neglected bog of a course and making it the most enjoyable course I've played all summer.

  I've been a member at Hinksey Heights for the last 4 years and I've seen major changes at the club. The course has absolutely stunning views of the dreaming spires of Oxford and is fantastically laid out. It's a real challenge for golfers especially when the wind gets up, which it normally does. Our signature hole, the 3rd, is a stunning par 4 and coming so early in the round it has a habit of ruining my medal card. Having been a member at several clubs, I can't think of a friendlier club and with the new status of members club I know that the members will be working to make it even better. I couldn't recommend this place more highly.

  Was really excited about this course - got a great offer from groupon and couldn't wait to try a new course. The welcome from the staff was very friendly which started the day well. Not sure if the condition of the Tees was due to lack of rain...they were very hard making it difficult to place a tee. There were a few holes that did have a amazing views of Oxford and if the bunkers were not in a solid state that made it impossible to even consider hitting a ball out of it may of had a Wow factor from me. The slow play made it worse - we normally take just over 3 hrs with a buggy for a two ball for a 6,500 yard course, our round took slightly under 5 hrs with other 4 balls players infront not allowing us to pass and looking as miserable as can be. On leaving the course, we had to park up the buggy on the dirt road where we were rudely told of by a member for kicking up dust which made his golf bag dirty. Maybe if the other players we met there were more friendly like we are use to from most golf courses - out experience would have been for enjoyable....but alas they were not.

  what a class course and i should know as ihave played all over the world. so i know what i am talking about  i cannot fault the course it looked in fantastic condition with some breathtaking veiws over the dreaming spiers of oxford and the capital of botley who i belive a person called colin built .The greenkeeping staff were some of the most helpful i have evr come across and belive they should praised for their sterling effott to produce such a fantastic course with such a low buget the only down side was the smaal pro shop whitch is run by a pro who does not  seem to care  and his staff are damn right rude .But this should not stop anyone playing this course i have already mentioned it to all my golfing  mates  and work collegues ad we look forward to playing there in the near futre .... the true legend of GLASSY??????

  Hinksey Heights will never host the Ryder Cup or rival Augusta for luxury but what it does do is provide a stern golfing challenge, a warm welcome and great value for money. It is not an old established course but this seems to have resulted in a lack of the snobbery which can result from a club having been open for 200 years and where the committee is mostly retired colonelsor civil service mandarins. The weather, in particular wind conditions, make a huge difference to the course and how you play it. The third is very picturesque and tricky and elsewhere accuracy, length, and shot shaping all come into play, as does an appreciation of risk and reward. Where Hinksey really scores though is in terms of its value for money. If you've got £50 quid or more to spend then you can afford to be really fussy but for £20 you can play 18 holes at Hinksey (£14 for twighlight golf) and that is brilliant value. The course is being continuously improved and the greens are good, with long sweeping fairways and delightful views over Oxford. It borders a nature reserve so there's always a chance of spotting deer, hare, woodpeckers, heron and all sorts of other wildlife. There is water danger on three holes and plenty of testing rough but for high handicappers it is reasonably tricky to actually lose your ball. All in all, after 2 years spent playing on a different course more or less every week, Hinksey more than holds its own.

  I've been going to my local driving range for a little while now and have recently built the courage to get myself out and play 'for real'. Still not quite ready for the full thing so am going for par3's. It's great to have a par3 and a cheap 9 hole (Hinksey's "Spires") to test myself out on. I've not given it a lot of stars mainly because of my limited experience but would throughly recommend it to anyone out there who needs to get out and practice more than bashing it off the tee but doesn't want to pay full price for doing so. Nice and open too but not without it's testing parts.
