Mid Herts Golf Club

What we say
We know it’s an old course reviwer’s adage, but there really is something for everyone at this rather splendid old venue. There are places where you can let rip with the driver and there are holes where course strategy is essential to keep out of trouble in the form of trees, OB, rough and strategically-placed bunkers. If you can do all that you’ll score well though, then again, you also need to conquer the fast, subtlely undulating greens.
Mid-Herts opened for play in 1893, making it one of England's earliest golf courses. The club's first professional was Horace Rawlins, who went on to win the inaugural US Open Championship in 1895 and was runner-up the following year.
It is recorded that Harry Vardon, J.H. Taylor and Jack White all played matches at Mid-Herts in the early 1900s. When the golf course was extended to 18 holes in 1923, James Braid was engaged to advise on the layout and many of his typical design features can still be seen today.
