What we say
At Southwood Golf Club the golf course is superb - a good selection of holes, a considerable array of hazards that require your unflinching concentration to successfully negotiate and a fabulous setting.
Measuring 5738 yards from the tee on the first all the way down to the pin on the 18th, the golf course is an exceptional test whether you are a high or a low handicapper and will have you licking your lips in anticipation on the first tee.

Well kept for the location and prices. Parklands course with quite thin fairway trees between the holes. Some interesting tree placements on a few holes. Bunkers rarely came into play for me. Generally well kept greens, although the 14th appears to be under some work. Big hitters can hit a couple of greens, and an adventurous mid-distant hitter can easily drive the 4th. The 17th was unplayable due to the weather recently .. shame, as its a nice break. The long 15th can really ruin a good round though. Nice practise green, and chipping green. The driving nets are poor though .. and well hidden. Pro shop is packed for such a small place, and the bar etc are adequate.

My house backs onto the 9th fairway so it would be rude not to play it! This course has improved soo much in the last 5 years, the greens are nothing short of excellent, i've played member only courses with greens alot worse then these. They are currently trying to put some shape into the fariways by letting the rough grow out, I can see why they are doing this as the course in itself isn't very long, but you have to put the ball in the right position on alot of holes, with trees in the middle of fairways etc, it makes you think how best to play the hole, instead if just trying the blast it as far as you can. My personal favourate holes are, 5, a mid size par 4 with a massive oak tree in the middle of the fairway which makes you think, the par 3 10th, which would grace any members course, probably the picture hole of the course, and the risk and reward par 4 17th, you tee off along way above the green so its driveable for the longish drivers, but there's a lake waiting for you if you don't catch it right! The trees lining the holes are about 20 feet high which means if you go into them your just chipping out, they are bushy it makes each hole feel separate. Bunker condition could be better, there's not much sand in them. And they are currently re-seeding the 9th tee. Facilities wise they have a putting green in the same condition as the playing greens, and a separate chipping green with a bunker which is great, They don't have a driving range although planning application going through at the moment may change that in the future. The Clubhouse is a bit 80's looking, but has a decent shop, bar, and changing facilities, this also is up for renewal according to the planning application. Overall for about £20 for 18 holes, there's not much better in the area, not the longest but rewards accurate driving. and well worth the £12 twightight.

I love this course. I live down the road from it and play it very often. Today's golfer has some incorrect info about the course. It does not require a handicap cert as I dont have one and have played it at least 20 times. I would recomend this course to anyone, it has something for everyone. This was actually the first course I played and also took lessons from the pro. He is a great teacher, patient and very knowledgable. I hope this review helps

A good parkland course, with some wonderful greens. Tree line fairways and rough that you are challenged to get out off. A fair selection of food in the 19th and a reasonable selection of beers makes a good end to a round.
