North Hants Golf Club

Heathland courses are usually pretty special golfing venues and North Hants is no exception to the rule. In fact it’s right up there with the best of them and as soon as you pitch up and enter the grand old clubhouse and survey the picturesque, wonderfully quaint and charming layout in front of you, you know you’re in for a good golfing time. But don’t let the scee fool you: North Hants may look and play pretty, but there’s no doubt it can bite and present a deceptively difficult challenge.

North Hants Golf Club was founded in 1904 and is widely considered as one of the region's finest inland golf courses. It's proud to be on The Open qualifying roster and also stages the prestigious and wonderfully named ‘Hampshire Hog,’ - a long established 36 hole men’s scratch amateur event.

North Hants incidentally is also the golf course on which top pro Justin Rose, now earning his living on the US PGA Tour, learnt his trade.

Stay & Play: There's no shortage of accommodation in nearby Fleet and Hook and there's a Travel Lodge just down the road from the course.

  I've been playing here regularly over the years and have seen many changes in the last few seasons. They have removed a lot of trees and heather on man holes (not good) and have changed the orientation on one othe par 3's (good move). Course condition is usually excellent, and we have played the last few years right after the Hampshire Hog tournie ... This leaves some very fast greens. Plays well in winter too, although you may have to dodge the green keepers clearing the leaves !! The first is always a bit of a let down for me (170 ish par 3), but you then get into the swing of the course with a couple nice holes. Bunkering is well placed for many of the holes and I'm sure many in each grop find out the hard way. It is possible to plan your way around though and by not taking risks the course can be tamed. Great clubhouse,very attractive to many guests when you need some refreshment, although they can be a little sticky with dress codes in your staying for lunch/dinner. Certainly be back.
