What we say
Came Down Golf Club was founded in 1896 under the name of Dorchester Golf Club. The current layout was designed by H.S. Colt and is a true test of skill for golfers of all levels.
Came Down has strong Ryder Cup connections and in fact played a key role in golf's greatest team competition getting underway. For his holidays, Samuel Ryder, who set the Ryder Cup ball rolling, often holidayed at nearby Weymouth on Dorset's coast and as a result regularly teed it up at Came Down.
Came Down Golf Club offers stunning 360 degree views to locations such as Weymouth, Portland and the Isle of Wight.

We played this course for the first time with a group of 8 with mixed handicaps between 12-36 We were met by helpful staff members, an interesting (for all handicaps) course with outstanding views and good condition throughout. At the end of our round we were looked after by friendly bar staff and a great day was had by all. We can thoroughly recommend this course and although most of the party came from West Sussex, if we are this way again we shall certainly be back.

Played in early May, with a combination of elements, and the course provided a nice mix of challenges, if never really long. The greens were in excellent condition, very true and well paced, although almost all seemed to favour an approach to the front left and feed it in. The pace of play was a rare bonus - 3hr15mins for 18 holes for a 3-ball was a pleasure. With a modern, vibrant clubhouse Came Down would be a 5* course, but the clubhouse lets it down somewhat. The pro shop is poky, the dressing room is a bit 1970s school changing room, and the bar/restaurant was empty when we went in at 2.30pm on a Saturday afternoon. Also, don't rush the woman in the kitchen - the food is lovely but don't incur her wrath by thinking you as the customer know best! Great value at £21 with 2-FOR-1 voucher though still, especially as they accept them at weekends too.

We have played the course 3 times now and have been lucky to have beautiful weather. The course has to be thought about and has some great holes. The views are stunning. Each time we have been we have been made very welcome and even the Captain made time to come and talk to us over lunch and tell us the history of the club. Well worth a visit and stay for the day if you can.

Although the course is not very long, it is in great condition and you do have to think your way around. Being exposed and close to the coast i was expecting strong winds and a tuff challenge, however on the day there was no wind and therefore the cvourse seemed to lack some teeth. The greens were hard and fast and the fairways and tees were in good condition. IT would have been a real pleasure to play if a pair of lady members had not ruined our round by trying to prevent us from starting the back nine as they thought the pro should not have allowed us to start as the tee was booked for a ladies competition. To put this in context we had dropped one hole from the goup in front as we had had a very bad hole on the 9th but we were still under two hours for the fronmt nine so not playing slowly. We were only allowed to continue if we agreed to speed up and therefore the back nine went in a blur, being completed in under and hour an a half. Needles to say the two lady members were not in sight by the end. Depsite this both my partner and i enjoyed the course and the extremely pleasant walk. Watch out for the 6th a 220 yard par three (from the day tees) 231 yards from the members.
