Donnington Grove Country Club

 The course was designed by the Welsh Ryder Cup player Dave Thomas, who has been responsible for several renowned courses, including the Brabazon at the Belfry. It is a good test for golfers of all levels and is always in excellent condition.
 It plays well all the year round, even in winter, as temporary greens are never used.From the White Tees the course is over 7,100 yards (6,490 metres) long, and presents a stiff challenge for low handicap golfers. At some 500 yards (457 metres) shorter, the course off the Yellow Tees is a fair test for higher handicap players, making it eminently suitable for society and corporate events.
The course consists of two halves that are very different in character; the front nine is undulating on higher ground and has stunning views over the surrounding countryside, while the back nine is classic parkland, with an abundance of beautiful trees and water hazards.

  All good condition, USPGA prepared so nothing should be surprising. I didn't notice anything out of place and it appear bunkers are position to collect most drives. No shorter par 3's so be prepa for 160-190 all the time. Par 5s are true and well layer out. Geta course guide so you can avoid then bunkers, watch out for the tree in the middle of the 10th :) Couple of water holes but if you play for fairways the. It shouldn't be an issue. Greens are nicely sloped and good test. Very much a society course, nice big Reception room for your group. Pro shop recently restocked after a fire. I would recommend a buggynifnyou don't like long walks, and 1-2, 8-9, 9-10 and back from the 18th will test your legs. Note ... I heard they may have changed the order of the holes again since I last visited.

  After booking on line we were warmly greated at the Pro Shop. Unfortunately they failed to mention that a 4 x 4 ball Ladies Club Match had started an hour previously and it turned into a 5 hour round. We gave up after the 15th - an hour to play two holes is TOO long. The course, although difficult was in very good condition and some interesting holes, especially the par 3 9th. A lovely Club House with terrace overlooking the 9th and 18th greens.

  A great course but way too long to walk at a relaxed pace. Despite other comments this is No2 in the area behind Newbury and Crookham. Facilities wise, Donnington Grove wins, but for a great course head up the hill.

  A fantastic course - long, difficult, with gradient and character. The course is in fantastic condition year round. The facilities have improved massively with the recent renovation. Simply better than anything else in the surrounding area.

  Played a lot previously but disappointed this time. Not in such great condition, pins could have been moved away from bad areas. Not enough buggies available any more, slow round, too packed! New clubhouse good but how do you find it? I guessed as played before but signs none existant.

  This is a hidden gem and a must play for anyone around the area. 2 very different sets of 9 holes make a good round enjoyable.
