  • 4 out of 5 The challenge is always a pleasure at Bird Hills

    By Geoffers

I mention I play at Bird Hills to players at other nearby courses and nobody has heard of you. Advertise more. The head course manager and his polite, hard working crew deserve a medal as the tees, fairways and greens are amazing which adds to the challenge. It's a shame there is no membership as inter golf club rivalry is fun and Bird Hills can be proud of what they offer visiting players. Please be aware two for one is not available but the course fees are very reasonable. That's it.

  • 5 out of 5 I'm an enthusiastic weekly player

The course is always playable even in the most atrocious weather. The temporary tees are no problem and it's rare to have temporary greens. We are always permitted to use a trolley, thankfully. The ground and club house staff are very friendly and always make us feel welcome. Our suspicions are aroused by the new management decision to cease membership which seems bazaar as the heart of all good societies is its membership. Long live Bird Hills golf club.

bird hills just south of maidenhead measures 5943 yds off the yellow tees and is an easy walking course. The tees and greens are first class and you wont find a more friendly welcome anywhere from  the booking or bar staff . The course has a good mix of holes . After a relatively easy  four par 4s the 5th is a par 3 163 yds with a tricky two tiered green . This is followed by two par 5s within three holes giving a great chance of birdies as they are not too difficult and are not overly long at 490 yds and 488 yds respectively . My favourite is the 9th . A par 3 at 175 yds over a ditch and small pond . You could use anything from a 7 iron to a 5 0r 3 wood here depending which way the wind is blowing .Pick of the back nine is the 13th a short par 5  , probably the highest point of the course and you can see  for miles on a clear day . The eighteenth is a steadily uphill par 5 with a green directly in front of the ample clubhouse which serves all day food at great prices . The course is in great condition so give it a go .Monday to friday is only a tenner with a voucher and you wont get better value for that anywhere. If you run short of tees or balls there is an american golf discount shop on site

Bird hills golf course just a few miles south of maidenhead is mainly flatish and is easy walking. measuring just under 6000 yds from the yellows the par 72 course has a good mixture of holes of which the pick for me is the 9th , apar 3 measuring 175 yds over a ditch and pond where club selection depends on the breeze on the day  The course is fairly open and most of the par 4s and 5s invite you to open the shoulders as their arnt many out of bounds on them. the greens have always been in great shape and the only fault i can think of is that the sand in the bunkers is too loose and more often than not you will find your ball plugged in them. Bird hills have an excellent club house , a patio area overlooking the 1st and 18th holes and very friendly staff . Their is also an american golf shop on site . You can play here for a tenner in the week with a voucher and its easy to get a tee time . Give it a go .You wont be dissapointed . Steve Salt.
