Clevedon Golf Club

What we say
Created by JH Taylor in 1908 this course is a challenging test. It enjoys a wonderful location high above the Severn Estuary so boasts panoramic views. Clevedon’s difficulty depends on the strength of the wind whipping off the Severn Estuary. It’s always in good condition.
Clevedon Golf Club's Par 72 golf course is both challenging and interesting at 6557 yds with a standard scratch of 72, it will prove challenging for all standards of golfers.
The front nine offers spectacular views and scenery as the golf course stretches along the Severn estuary then down into the valley. The back nine brings you into our new land and 5 holes which includes our 572 par 5 and not for the faint-hearted.
As you leave the new land you prepare yourself for the Clevedon signature hole.
The Castle tee stands over 200ft above the fairway with views all over Clevedon and out into the estuary with Flat Holm, Steep Holm and the Welsh coastline stretching before you.

Having played Clevedon many times over recent years, it is a shame that what has always been one of the finer courses in the area with some of the best views has been sadly & consistently let down by the committee/greenstaff. It all started when an obsession with length led to the loss off several characterful holes many years ago. No doubt a lot of work is going into the course, but seemingly at the expense of the greens which have been criminally neglected/incompetently managed for so long that drastic measures have now been taken to try and rectify them. I'm doubtful they will be fit for serious play for many months and it may have been better to dig them up and start again. There also seems to be bogus reasoning behind some other course changes such as the removal of well placed bunkers and being prohibited from hitting anything more than a 6/7 iron from the tee of the feature castle hole. On the plus side the course has now been flipped, which is very much a welcome change and the club no longer boasts the dreariest finishing hole in golf (the 10th on the new layout), but the indexes could use another look as they just don't work for matchplay as they're should. Unfortunately the club lets itself down further with the clubhouse & bar being a fairly inhospitable place.

The first follows the Bristol Channel with great views. Some interesting par 3s. A good test of golf and worth playing.
