After playing many smaller courses and a handfull of larger ones I decided that it was time to splash out on a round at Killiow. Overall it was money well spent as the course was in great condition often offering some excellent scenery and a great work out for the legs. The course offers a variety of hole types with plenty of chances to play some more intersting shots, in particular draw and fade due to the large number of dog legs. However the course also consists of a considerable amount of hills and definately left me feeling it at the end. The course can offer a range of challenges for even the lower handicapper as often you are face with tight, uphill and or blind drives. For £25 a round I would definately recommend it to anyone looking for a good day out especially after the warm and unexpected welcome from the course and its members. For this reason alone I would currently recommend Killiow over any other course as it is often difficult for the younger player such as myself to feel accepted at new courses.

This is one of the toughest courses i have played, i'm not the best golfer in the world but i do like playing different courses, This one starts like most of the holes here with a blind tee which runs along side the driving range which narrows down the fairway considerably. The 2nd runs across the bottom of the driving range with trees obscuring the green crossing a small stream about 1/2 way. the 3rd like the 4th and 16th are doglegs to the right where as the 8th 13th and 15th are slight doglegs. the 5th is a par 3 at 108yrd and the green sits on top of a 4ft wall and dependant on where the pin is can often make you come up short. The 9th is quite a new hole, a par 5 at 437yrd with a very narrow fairway, trees running all the way up the right hand side a a stream running most the way up the left side, with a elevated green and a bunker running up the elevation on the left side of this green. The 10th is quite a simple par 3 at 139yrd with a slightly elevated green. Now comes the down side to this course:- you have a long walk between the 10th and 11th approx 500yrd where you pass waste land, and i have always thought that this would be a good place to have a snack bar, you could pause for 5mins and enjoy a hot or cold drink before continuing with your game, but that is only my opinion. The 11th take you into another field a 393 par 4 with long grass to the left and right a tree lined wall across the middle with a gap to play through and this is where you will meet players on the 15th coming in the opposite direction. The 12th par 4 355yrd is straight forward your only real concern is the two trees narrowing the fairway about 100yrds from the green. The 13th par 5 526yrd the longest hole on the course is nice you only have to hit it straight between the two trees infront of the ladies tee and the fairway opens wide, this hole finishes with a slight dogleg to the green. The 14th is a par 3 174yrd simple and streaight. The 15th is a par 5 457yrd heading back towards the club house, The 16th par 4 432yrd dogleg has a interesting tee, you have trees to you left side, trees in your target line, a gap of about 20yrds to the right of those trees then a lonly tree then another gap of about 15yrds then a row of trees running along the side of the fairway so make your drive count, what makes this hole more difficult is that the green slopes away from you, hit it hard and you roll of the back. Why do i say this is the toughest course i've played, because most of the way around this course you feel like you are playing and walking uphill.
