Stockwood Vale Golf Club boasts an 18-hole, 6,031-yard, par 71 golf course that sweeps the golfer through the peace and tranquillity of Stockwood Vale towards the village of Queen Charlton. The fairways cross streams and stunning natural features. No two holes are alike and the whole golf course overflows with spectacular interest.

The greens staff produce excellent playing surfaces and complement them with immaculate tee to green presentation. The 18 holes have been built to USGA specification and great attention has been paid to drainage so that the golf course is playable in all but the most extreme weather conditions.

  This is my home course, I have played here for 7 years, the last two years very regularly. There are a mixture of holes with some steep climbs between some of them. The 1st is SI 18 and can catch you out very easily with a four bunkers staggered towards the green from 50 yards out and a steep bank at the back if you overcook your shot in. The 2nd is also a tricky one, a par 3 across a gentle valley to a raised green but below your tee. When on the green the slope can be very unkind to your short putts. As a 17 handicapper I have frequently been demoralised by scoring highly on the first two holes! The par 5's all have bunkers, hedgerows and trees which will punish wayward shots and the signature 13th hole can be intimidating in a breeze, with a deep valley from a high tee with out of bounds on the right to catch a fade or slice. On a hot summer's day it can be frustrating to reach the 15th green and see the clubhouse with its nice bar and patio and then remember you have three holes to complete behind the clubhouse on the east part of the course. As a mid-handicapper it is a very challenging course to keep your handicap coming down on, in comparison with wider parkland-style courses. The club staff are very friendly and helpful and there is a good atmosphere in the clubhouse, frequented as it is by many self-employed builders, engineers and other "blue-collar" occupations. There is none of the "snootiness" associated with other courses I have played. There is the usual dress-code and subs for 7-day membership are around £800. There is a covered driving range and two pro's who give a variety of lessons. This is a good club to me a member of and a challenging course for visitors who will receive a warm welcome.

  Played this course for the first time and it is a great find - the course is interesting (up, down, flat, long, short) and really well maintained - the greens are as good as I have played on. Its very cheap and the buggies can be had for under £10 - I will definitely go back.

  This course doesn’t just welcome beginners but actively encourages us to take up the sport with some fantastic packages to really get your teeth into the game. I have now played it with some more able golfers too who agree with me it’s a fantastic course that’s well maintained and a beauty to play.
