This hotel resort used to have two 18 hole courses that were average at best, and down right awful at worst. but thanks to a recent redesign the phoenix course has been shortened to 9 holes and the griffin has been re-routed over some of the old phonix holes to create a nice testing 18 hole layout. with several par 4's now over 400 yards it is not short and despite the recent rains the greens were running true, no standing water in bunkers and in general great condition. there is no range, so you have to mark them down for that, only a small practice area where you have to use your own balls, and it is only 150 yards long, so no time to warm up the driver, although there are a couple of nets by the first. food was ok, i had a full english, i wanted beans, got tomatoes, which was easily rectified but not until i was half way through eating my breakfast, and the scrambled eggs were over cooked. all the staff i met were friendly and accomodating, especially the receptionist who lent me a towel for a shower post round. i will be returning.

I was previously a member and have marvelled at the progressive changes b eing made at the course. How sad, then, when I tried to book today, my 2fore1 was rejected - perhaps they shouldn't advertise on this site?

The Griffin course is tricky to find a trouble free round, there is always something to catch you out if you’re not middle of the fairway, like a tree or a ditch as I found out. Great views and wildlife surround this course if you’re not playing the best you can always enjoy the walk. Old clubhouse overlooking the 18th green with friendly staff. Recommended enjoyable day.

I have played on both courses alot over the winter and have found the staff friendly and the food fantastic in the clubhouse. Cottesmore is a great club and with splendid facilites. It boasts two 18 hole courses and offers all standards of golfer a good challenge. The Griffin is the more difficult of the two with some testing holes on the front and back 9. It uses the lake well on the Par 3 2nd and the somewhat tricky Par 4 6th. The Griffin also has some great Par 5's which allow you to open your shoulders but accuracy counts for a lot off the tee as you can find yourself blocked out by trees if you are not in the right place. The Phoenix offers the higher handicap golfer the chance to get used to playing 18 holes and whilst shorter than the Griffin there are some testing holes. The greens are in better condition than the Griffin and were very responsive. I prefer playing the Griffin out of the two as it offers a greater test In summary this club is well worth a visit and you are always welcomed with a friendly smile

Take one hugely pretty and subtle course. Throw in some lovely gardening and floral arrangements. Add the worst greens this side of the mongolian desert and you have the conundrum that is Cottesmore. I love this course I love the club. I love the pretty lakes the use of water the birds the flowers the layout. But whoever tends those greens needs a P45 sent post haste. OK so its February but if I putted along the tractor marks of a swampy field I would have more luck. A complete disgrace.

I play here every week and the course this year has really come a live. I regally play course local to Cottesmore and shoot around the high 70's, but here NO NO, this course is really tricky and the great condition its now in makes it very enjoyable. The only Neg. is the speed the food orders get to you, 20 to 30 min's is too lonf for a sandwich.
