West Hill Golf Club

What we say
West Hill is the youngest of Surrey’s three Ws (along with Woking and Worplesdon). The Scottish links influence – the course was designed by Cuthbert Butchart, a professional from Carnoustie – is evident in the nine out, nine back layout though it’s whether you’re in or out of the heather that will determine the quality of scoring. As good as the other two Ws with possibly the best hole of the three, the scintillating long par-3 15th with its wickedly contoured green. Oozes character among heather and pine.

The golf course design is attributed to Cuthbert Butchart who became West Hill's first professional before the course was built. It has remained largely unaltered, but much work has gone into improving the quality of the fabric and the presentation - a watering system for the greens and tees was installed in 1981 while a bunker refurbishing programme got underway in 1999.

Played this course in early Oct so not at its best. Enjoyed the course although no real signature hole that I recall. The practice facilities are good with only comment being the driving nets (not a big fan). The Welcome was warm and friendly and the food was excellent would recommend a visit during the Summer. Not sure I would put this ahead of the PGA at Gleneagles, after playing this both this is a little overated.
