Wentworth Golf Club – West Course

What we say
The calibre of PGA champions suggests the redesign achieved its objective, but it is now more West Virginia less Virginia Water, more Trent-Jones parkland less Colt heathland, sadly.

The West course, which was opened in 1926, winds like a vast coiling snake through Wentworth's heavily wooded estate. It is also affectionately known as the Burma Road course and is arguably one of the world's most famous layouts, annually being the home of the prestigious BMW Championship - the European Tour's flagship tournament - and of course the World Match Play Championship. It's the scene of so many golfing trials and tribulations: who could ever forget Gary Player's amazing World Match Play victory when he fought back from seven down with 17 holes to play to defeat the late Tony Lema?
Stay & Play: Eight rooms (four doubles and four singles) on site.

Fantastic day! 18th Birthday present for my son! Was lucky enough to have "la Rue" as my caddie and was spot on with his advice. Birdie on the first was my highlight, but the best part of the day was watching my son play it like it was his own he course!! 35 points with 2 blobs! Very respectable!

Played it on 13th June 2014 - amazing place & 5 star every where - felt very welcome - course in amazing condition, paid £360.00 each inc. a compulsory caddie - who's reads on the greens were amazing - had several one putts from distance… Very tuff course & a little too long for me but so enjoyable… You are in the footsteps of giants - not overly busy so a nice paced round - every thing about the course is top notch as it should be for £360.00 each….

The West course is in itself a great course. Long, hard and in great nick,. But the latest set of changes made by Ernie a couple of years ago have simply taken it beyond normal golfers. The mebmers don't like playing it - choosing the east course instead and it's easy to see why. It's just too hard. You are hitting long irons into greens that won't hold and the greens are tough too.... and with a rack rate of £360 it's just not worth it... it's an experience rather than a fun round of golf...

Sure it's wentworth and you HAVE to play it but for almost £300 I want to be carried round by a trio of supermodels wearing diamond bikinis and wiping my forehead with £50 notes. Expensive but for a once-in-a-lifetime round it is worth it. I even managed a few pars too!
