North Downs Golf Club

What we say
Par-69 courses don’t come more testing than this little parkland beauty plotted on the North Downs about 850ft above sea level with spectacular views in all directions. But you can’t afford to get too distracted because the course, with tree-lined and sloping fairways, requires careful shot selection and accuracy.
North Downs celebrated its centenary year in 1999 and can be found high on the Downs - it's 850ft above sea level and therefore is one of the county's highest golfing venues, not surprisingly providing dramatic views.
Originally a nine-hole golf course - it was in fact a nine holer for 66 years before another 31 acres were acquired, allowing the additional holes to be constructed and turned into the challenging 18 hole layout it is today.
Enjoying it's Centenary Year in 1999, the first thing to notice at North Downs is how the climate can differ compared with places quite locally. The clubs location, high on the downs, often means that the course can be basking in sunshine when all around at lower elevations, might be gloomy, less pleasant conditions. Conversely, the opposite can sometimes, but not often, also prevail.
The course is situated at up to 850ft above sea level and is one of the highest in the Country offering spectacular views to those golfers who enjoy the extra pleasure of such surroundings.
Founded in 1899, with the Club formed six years later, the original 9-hole course survived many rigours for 66 years when a further 31 acres were acquired. This allowed additional holes to be constructed turning the course into the challenging 18 hole layout that exists today.

This is a great, tight, challenging course a few miles past the Kent/Surrey border. The course is always well maintained and although the course is short, the challenge is hitting the ball straight, as the fairways and greens are very narrow. The staff were very welcoming and the clubhouse was well kept. Thoroughly recommended.

When playing this course I made the comment to my buddies the front 9 looked like it had been put together to make this into an 18 and when I looked on the web after our day that's exactly what it is. The back 9 is pleaseant enough but when your paying £35 for the privilege of playing a glorified 9 hole I would suggest making the extra journey down to East Sussex National where you will pay the same but play a real 18 hole golf course
