What we say
Nine holers often tend to be frowned upon but Dorking should escape the cynics. This undulating parkland layout was created by James Braid and has been around for every a century, its tree-lined fairways hiding it from the A24. It may only offer nine holes but it still has plenty going for it, including different tees for the back nine, excellent drainageā¦and no winter greens or tees.
A traditional parkland golf course, established in 1897 in the heart of Surrey, with tree-lined fairways and panoramic views. Visitors are welcome to play from 2pm on Saturdays, from noon on Sundays and midweek every day except Monday and Wednesday mornings.

Just returned from playing Dorking and can happily recommend it to south east golfers. First the downsides - the course is only a 9 holer (although with 18 tees) and this can cause congestion. Also, the course is on the short side in particular there are a couple of short par 4's (1/10 and 5/14) which really are a bit easy to be honest. The pluses however more than make up for this imho. The staff and members I met were really friendly. I was playing on my own but ended up being invited to join a 2 ball on the first tee and played with them for the first 9 holes. The views of the north and south downs are superb and make a visit worthwhile for the scenary alone. The course was in good nick - in particular the greens (which are lightening fast by the way) and how you read and manage them with determine your score as most holes, bar the 8th, are easily reachable in regulation. The greens are the courses' defence and are sloping and quick, expect loads of multi breaking putts! The par 3 are challenging - the 8th plays 220 yards and all of them are well bunkered. Finally, the bar is well stocked and they do fresh sandwiches/baguettes etc and they have regular BBQs in the evening. A nice friendly club that deserves to do well imho. Overall well worth a visit - and for the first half of August you can play 18 holes for a tenner which can't be bad can it!?
