  • 4 out of 5 A quiet round in the sun

    By Jonathan Stewart

I play Coulsdon regularly given that a round after 4pm only costs £10. In terms of value for money you can't really beat it. The greens are alway running true, with the fairways regularly cut. Measuring 5,768 yards off the yellows means It's not too difficult, but there are a few challenging holes thrown in. The 2nd is an slightly uphill par 4, measuring 432 yards, the green being protected with a number of bunkers. A par here sets you up nicely. The par 3 6th is the signature hole. A very picturesque hole. Anything to the left ends up in the large bunker, or possibly the woods, anything to the right and you probably won't be able to back on the green with your next shot! The back nine ends with 4 tough holes, including the 200 yard par 3 16th with a green which slopes away from you, and surrounded by bunkers, anything under 4 is a good effort. The hotel has been taken over by the Bespoke hotel group and they seem to be in the process of upgrading the sand in the bunkers at the moment. Some are lovely, some are old sand and tough to get out of. They are also upgrading the changing rooms. There is no specific golfers bar, although golfers can use the hotel bar. They regularly have a special on for golfers in terms of food (chicken taco and chips - £3.95 last week) which are heavily discounted compared to the main menu. Overall, a lovely course, good value for money, pleasant 19th and never really that busy for some reason.

Played winter round with course in pretty good condition. Good course with forgiving fairways, nothing hugely exciting in terms of standout holes but definitely does the job for a quick winter's hit. Hotel good for food and drink afterwards, although no specific golfers clubhouse.

Played on a monday on 2 fore 1 voucher. Nice course. Not very difficult but no one in front and no one behind. Nice chilled 3hr round. Couple of beers and some lunch after . Perfect day. To top it all off the two young ladies behind the bar were an aboslute dream.

This was a competition prize, so thankyou Todays golfer. The place looked superb upon arrival and when I explained I was playing Golf on my own (the wife preferring the sunbed), the staff were extremely helpful. Although a beautiful sunny day, 11:30am and a Saturday, the course was superbly quiet. I met 3 members on the 1st who let me join them and so proceeded one of the most enjoyable rounds of golf in years (3.5 hrs). Considering it was January and it had been raining heavily earlier in the week, the course was in good condition, although the greens were too slow for my liking. Not the toughest course I've ever played, but it has some lovely holes - Par 3 7th being one - and a couple down right fiendish. All in all a pleasant and relaxing course that will suit most standards (try playing off the Tiger Tees). A big thankyou to all the staff for making us feel so welcome and especially Adrian, Mick & Clive for putting up with me. Will definitely return in the near future.

  • 2 out of 5 How busy can a course get?

For a quick outing away from the in-laws, this is not the course to visit. We arrived at our alloted tee-time to find the first tee had one group waiting while we could see another half down the 1st, another group on the 1st green and three more groups waiting for the second tee. It took three hours t play the first nine so we left after that. It is a shame because the course is nice, challenging enough and interesting in its way (I have played it many times a few years back). however, I won't be going back in a hurry.
