This course is really something quite bizarre and a review has to be in two halves. Facilities: Well basically, there aren't any. The club house is a cabin. The 'pro shop' is a few clubs against the wall and the catering looked like it doubled as a truckers cafe; which was closed. The driving range is 125 yards only and I don't think the balls had been cleaned since the course opened in 1978. Having said that, the staff there were friendly, seemed very competent, committed to encouraging young golfers and were well aware that this side of the course was in a bad way. The Course: After this first impression, I was expecting very little from the course. It felt like I was on a farm. But I was pleasantly surprised. The tee boxes and fairways were all nicely cut. The greens were pretty good for a municipal course (clearly tidied since the last review) and the course looked generally in pretty good shape. It plays pretty tough in the wind, with some long and tight holes that require pretty accurate long iron second shots and precision driving. A few tee shots over water and ravines that add a bit of an extra challenge. Back 9 is nicer than the front 9 as well so the course does improve as you go around. In summary, not a course to play if you want extras (like a bottle of water!). It should be considered a course and that's it. But a course that will test all abilities, seems to be investing the resources they have in improving the what is fundamentally key (the course itself), is very receptive of young and new golfers and is often quite quiet so you'll rarely ever be rushed. Maybe in a few years, if they find the right investor, this will be quite a treasure. But for now, use a 2fore!1 voucher though because it is not a £20 round quite yet...

This is everything that gives municipal golf a bad name. Apart from the course was deserted probably because no one else was stupid enough to hand over £15 for a round here. The welcome was okay in the fact that he smiled as he took the money. The tees were in awful condition but they were nothing compared to the greens some of which were used for motor bike racing in the evenings. Also dodging the dog faeces which was everywhere including tees and greens was a sport in itself. The bunkers were compacted dirt. I've played Hounslow heath a few years ago and at that point it was reasonable not Gleneagles or Wentworth you paid for what you get. But now the price has gone up and course maintenance has come down, don't get me wrong there are a number of holes that are intresting but the course needs serious investment because at the moment I wouldn't hand over a fiver to ply here.
