Southern Valley Golf Club, located near the Kent town of Gravesend, features an 18 hole inland links course.

The current course has been open since 1999 and is lined with growing gorse and broom.

  Fairways have bee layed on top on stones, broke my PW due to taking a divot and hitting a boulder that was in the fairway!! Would never play here again as other cources in the area are much better such as London Club, and The Belfry!! Steve McDonald had a farm.

  Played here at the weekend for the first time. Not a great start spending 10mins trying to find a parking space ( i think a wedding party was on) For all the rain we had, had, the course was in pretty good condition. Few puddles on the fairways, greens soggy but playable but most bunkers had big puddles and ones that didn't were unplayable. The course is pretty hilly (not to the level of lullingstone) but hard to judge distance. Fairways are forgiving tho, rough was light and easy to play out of.  Seemed like lots of par 3's . The bar afterwards was a different story. Children running around (screaming) parents/adults rolling around on the floor with them, having a convo's which could be heard a mile away, at first i thought these were wedding guests, but turns out not to be. (locals) This was more like a mens working club. We stayed for one pint , giving up trying to have a convo our self due to the noise. Really do give the bar a miss. play your round and go  home

   The course is rather good it's on chalk and drains really quickly in bad weather, which, it has a lot of, as it's right on the river and we have been there several times in summer and winter. However, I have been very disappointed with the club house on the occasions that I have been there. The bar staff were very nice but there is a lot of swearing and card playing, it has the feel of a men's drinking club rather than a golf club bar. Also, you never know when food will be available. Often you cannot get anything after 4pm not even a sandwich, I have tried the club house a few times now just in case our experience was a 'one off'. To be honest the 'men's club' feel of the place puts a real downer on our day and even though we are a group of guys, when we go into a clubhouse, all we want is a drink and a chat about the game with each other and the members who know the courses better than us. So we would go and play golf but we would definitely give the club house a miss.

  i played this course on the friday and it was such a wonder to play at this course. the greenstaff unlike at other course let you play through and they all look very busy gettin on their jobs. it looks like they have just done some work on the greens judgeing by the thousands of hole on them but their is about 10 times more growth on them since i last played about 6 months ago here. in the pro shop it took me a while to pay for my greenfee as the shop worker who was wearing trainers which i found odd at a golf course where presentation is meant to be its highest was not their. he was quite rude when he eventually got their but i didnt let it ruin my visit. overall the course was very good from the flatness in the greens to the sand in the bunkers. well worth the £16.50 greenfree.

  For some reason I had high expectations for this course. Don't get me wrong - I knew what to expect, but expecting a pure links course with nice sandy soil, I find it very difficult to play on hard-packed mud and chalk. This course provides plenty of both. It could have been fatigue setting in, but I almost broke my wrist (OK, slight exaggeration) on 18 while trying to take a divot on a short approach shot. There were unruly little teenagers running the shop and I had to wait 20 minutes to pay and tee off. On top of that, I was charged weekend rates on a non-holiday Monday (which I didn't realize until I got home). All in all, you know what you are getting when you play here. For the price you should expect a well grazed, hard-packed, muddy and sometimes grassless cow pasture. And as for the views... I give credit where credit is due... if you like looking out across the vista at power lines and power plants, then, yes, the view is wonderful.

  This is a great little course that is on the 2 fore 1 scheme and costs on £11. There are some fairly challenging holes and some have nice views of the Thames Estuary. Some of the par 3's are the same but the 14th a par 3 of 150 is much harder than it looks. Well worth a game if you are in the area and looking for a testing but not too testing game of golf for a bargain price of £11.
