Lewes Golf Club

What we say

Visiting Lewes Golf Club for the first time takes you on a magical mystery tour - up a single lane with passing places - past picturesque houses reminiscent of a trip to Cornwall - and then up and up to the top of the chalk cliffs - to arrive to spectacular views over the South Downs and the historic town of Lewes with its Norman castle standing proud. To top it all, the views from every hole are unsurpassable.  From the 8th green the highest point on the course there is a 360° view to the North Downs and south to the sea.

Lewes Golf Club is proud of its tradition of being a friendly club, and whether you are interested in membership, society golf or playing as a green fee player, you can be assured of a warm welcome.

  • 4 out of 5 On Top of the World, well, the South Downs

My local club: I love the par 5 7th hole: you crest the top of the hill and see the entire South Downs as far as Eastbourne. To score well you have to have all the skills to deal with the ever-present wind, sloping lies, and quite firm greens. The course drains well, and hardly ever has temporary tees, even in winter. The pro shop is good, and the club is refreshingly unsnobbish. You can even drink Harveys Bitter in the bar, overlooking the brewery in the town.
