Seahouses Golf Club

Water on links layouts is something of a rarity, but you have to contend with this freak of nature at Seahouses Golf Club. It’s known as Logan’s Loch and got its name after the former quarry which filled with freshwater in the 1920s: it’s helped to produce a mouth-watering par-3, 126-yard, 10th hole usually played into a stiffish wind. A relatively short but ultimately fun and challenging layout with a mix of clifftop and parkland-style holes. It’s the clifftop moments that provide most of the fireworks with the mouth-watering par-3 15th, played over a chasm, the standout experience.

Seahouses Golf Course is a traditional links golf course, with a standard scratch of 67 which is seldom bettered. Located just south of the village of Seahouses on the Northumberland coast, it is conveniently located just seven miles from the A1.

Upgraded to 18 holes in 1976, the golf course has hosted many Northumberland County competition events over the years - and boasts two of the most prestigious par 3s in the north of England. As well as the opportunity to play over the internationally famous "Logan's Loch" on the 10th, the golf course offers golfers spectacular views of both the expansive coastline and the rolling Northumbrian countryside. The Golf Club and its staff have a fine reputation for providing a friendly welcome and efficient service to members and visitors alike.

  I loved our afternoon on the Northumbrian Coast. Although a relatively short course, the tight, tricky set up demands much focus and concentration. Unfortunately the fantastic scenery on the sea side of the golf course can be a distraction...you have been warned. The greens are true and slick and fairways well maintained. The 19th is extremely homely and welcoming with good food at very reasonable prices. Thanks Seahouses for a great afternoon of golf and merriment.

  I played Seahouses a few years ago. The course was in good condition and my round was extremely enjoyable. I thinks its worth playing just for two of the par 3s, the 10th and the 15th. The 10th is a short par 3 over a pond. When I played I nearly got my ball in the hole on the green above, which I found very funny. When I played the 15th however, the wind was around 50mph, and I could hardly stand up. I aimed 40 yuards right but it still managed to go down the large cliff. Seahouses may not ooze in quality, but is extemely enjoyable and accesable to anyone. I dont  think I would ever get board of playing it!

  My Dad and I play up here every summer and whatever the weather the course is always in good condition. The facilities are not fantastic but the course and stunning views more than make up for it. There are two specific holes that we always look forward to. The 10th is all carry over the estuary to a wide green but not very deep and the 15th is their signature hole. Although it should be straight forward being only around 120 yds, it is very daunting as agin you must carry over a sea inlet all the way to a tiny green, slightly down hill. If you don't judge it right you are either in the sea or through the back. Very challenging if there's a North Sea gale blowing

  The first thing anyone will say about Seahouses is that it is a course of two distinct parts. It is very Links style on the clubhouse side of the road and Parkland on the other side. The Parkland side is okay. The Fairways are a bit rough and ready but have nice springy grass. As with the Links part there is not a great deal of rough to cause you problems but there are some water hazards. On the Links part of the course there are some excellent holes which on a nice summers day I'm sure will be an absolute pleasure to play. They are testing and with some great views along the beautiful Northumbrian coast.The short yardage of the course tells it's own story that it is shoe-horned into limited space which restricts it's potential. It is a course which can be enjoyable for all standards of player, it's just a shame that the few excellent holes aren't backed up with some better ones on the rest of the course. The welcome in the clubhouse was very warm and we enjoyed some great butties at Lunchtime. The changing facilities are adequate, but boy the toilets could do with a good clean the smell was disgusting !!
